Summary:

Provides courier support services to the Pre- and Post- Operative Departments. Transports & escorts patients to and from hospital departments & treatment rooms using safe transfer techniques, assists clinical personnel in moving patients to and from beds, stretchers, tables, etc. Delivers specimens, equipment, schedules, etc. to all parts of the hospital, maintains transportation equipment in clean & safe condition. May be required to run errands outside the facility on occasion.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • Valid Texas Drivers license preferred
  • BLS/CPR certification must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English preferred
  • Prefer hospital experience

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Performs transport duties for the department as necessary.
  • Establishes, maintains and revises record keeping and filing systems, ensuring confidentiality of information.
  • Consistently is attentive to detail, when delivering paperwork
  • Distributes mail in a timely manner.
  • Accepts and screens telephone calls and routes calls appropriately; promptly and graciously responds to calls and visitors and determines the urgency of the situation; suggests appropriate referrals or informs management when the situation warrants immediate attention.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • No experience required, however, experience working in a hospital or health care setting is preferred.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner.
  • Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
  • Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Requires good communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • High degree of competency/experience in general.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC :

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.
