POSITION SUMMARY:

The MRI Tech Resident will be partnered with a MRI Technologist in a working environment to increase competency in performing the modality specific procedures, including biopsies. This residency includes a combination of observation and hands on training, allowing the resident to complete the required procedures for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The MRI Tech Resident is responsible for performing all MRI procedures in a timely manner. As a member of the Radiology team, the MRI Tech Resident is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care at DHR Health. Upon completion of the residency, the resident will be assigned to his/her designated shift and facility.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited radiology or magnetic resonance (MR) program required.
  • Must be American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) eligible upon graduation.
  • Radiology Program graduate:

o Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) general certification within three (3) months of hire required.

o Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) MRI certification within twelve (12) months of hire preferred.

o Current State of Texas license (TMB) preferred.

  • Magnetic Resonance (MR) Program Graduate:

o Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) MRI certification required within twelve (12) months of hire required.

  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • American Heart Association ACLS and PALS recommended.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
  • Computer knowledge required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one (1) year of hospital experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Requires working with frequent interruptions. Must project a professional image.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
  • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
  • Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
  • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
  • Will be trained and responsible to perform MRI radiological procedures in a timely manner as per procedure protocols, including biopsies, optimizing imaging protocols to produce diagnostic-quality images.
  • Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
  • Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.
  • Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
  • Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
  • Insures exams are verified and completed in PACS and RIS systems.
  • Confirms that equipment and supplies are MRI compatible.
  • Adheres to MRI safety zones and conducts appropriate MRI screening process per policies and procedures.
  • Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
  • Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Complete and update all employment requirements, including continuing education (i.e. HealthStream), Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, Credentials, etc.
  • Call is required upon completion of the residency program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
