DescriptionLeidos National Security Sector is currently seeking Physicists across multiple skill levels from Junior to Senior, to provide support to assist a Department of Defense customer in performing its research and development mission. The scientist’s work will include concept and technology research, exploration, development, documentation, analysis, experimentation, adaptation, and transition.
The employee will perform a variety of tasks that include but not limited to:
- Research, theory development, analysis, and document findings.
- Conduct experimentation, data collection, and analysis for correlation and assessment of theory.
- Analyze, experiment, evaluate materials effects.
The employee will work both independently, and as part of small teams. They will coordinate as needed with the customer technical project team, and subject matter experts and scientists from other organizations.
Senior team members will participate in and may lead small teams or cross-collaborative efforts and direct/advise the work of more junior team members. They will design, conduct, and report on study, test, experimentation, and demonstration events. They will make recommendations for follow-on activity based on their findings. They will interact with and brief technical subjects to senior customer organization government and teammate/partner representatives.
Mid-level team members will participate in small teams or cross-collaborative efforts where they may be the primary or sole representative from their discipline. They may also lead portions of related efforts. They will direct/advise the work of junior team members. They will develop, conduct, and report on experimentation, study, and demonstration events. They will make recommendations based on their findings.
Junior team members will take direction from more senior team members in various disciplines. They will conduct limited scope independent research, document findings and make recommendations. They will conduct data collection, aggregation, and analysis. They will set up and tear down equipment in support of experimentation and demonstration events.
Though not frequent, there is a possibility for occasional travel on this project.
There is a likelihood of a hybrid work environment, with some time at the customer location, and other time at a remote/home office location. The distribution of time at various work locations will depend on the specific nature of work performed at any given time, and the associated security, facility, and equipment requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:- Conduct and document research and analysis based on established and emerging theories, and studies.
- Plan and conduct scientific experiments and studies to test theories and to discover properties of matter and energy.
- Summarize significant findings, present, and discuss them with the government customer and technical team. Make recommendations for further research, study, or experimentation as appropriate.
- Develop, review, and assess concepts, theories, and research from other sources and provide summaries and recommendations to the government technical team as appropriate.
Basic Qualifications:- Depending on level of position, Bachelor’s degree with 0-12 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience, or may have a Doctorate degree with 2 years of relevant experience; degree must be in a relevant physics discipline
- US Citizen; Currently possessing an active DoD Secret clearance, with possible elevation to Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Proficiently communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing
- Competently use MS Office applications
- Travel up to 10% to locations within the continental US
Preferred Qualifications:- Previous experience within the ARL program office or another government research agency
- Extensive experience in the areas of electrical and radio frequency engineering; application design, refinement, or adaptation for military application; and full cycle project support from conception to completion.
Note: Annual Salary will vary based upon experience/job level and may range from 75,000-225,000

Pay Range: Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
