About Our Team
A branch of the Camp’s Operations Division, the Health Services team manages the health and environmental safety of the Summer Camp community. The team is composed of two Registered Nurses and an Emergency Medical Technician with prior experience in pediatric emergency care and summer camp health and safety. The Health Services team fosters an environment of health and wellness among the camp leadership, staff, campers, and families to reduce the incidence of health- related disruptions, absenteeism, accidents, and injuries. Nurses must hold currently active license in Massachusetts.

About You
You are a health care professional who seeks to optimize camper health and learning by promoting health and wellness at all levels in the camp community. You are a self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, and diplomacy skills. In everything you do, you demonstrate an ability to assume increasing responsibility and tackle even the most challenging assignments with integrity, humor, and sound judgment.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

  • Collaborating with the other members of the Health services team, provide care and supervision of all medical services for all ill or injured campers and staff throughout the summer camp season.
  • Store, organize, and administer prescription and over-the-counter medications.
  • Assist in organizing and setting up the camp Health Office, to ensure that first aid supplies are fully stocked.
  • Ensure proper protocols, daily record keeping, and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and best medical practices, following up with parents and medical providers, as necessary.
  • Be familiar and maintain compliance with all local laws and regulations concerning the sharing or dealing with Protected Health Information (PHI), as well as act in good faith when working with or disclosing other confidential information.
  • Assist in developing and implementing medical care and management plans for campers of many ages with a variety of medical challenges, conditions, and disabilities.
  • Maintain professional relationship and open communication with the camp community and camp leadership team.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Camp or his/her designee.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current Massachusetts State License bearing title “Nurse”.
  • Current Certification in BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA, Red Cross, or ECSI accepted).
  • At least two years of pediatric/adolescent healthcare experience; camp and/or school experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrate an ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific, technical, and professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations; respond to common inquiries and complaints from campers, parents, camp employees, or regulatory agencies; write business correspondence, reports, notices; and effectively present information to campers, parents and camp administrators.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing willingness to be knowledgeable, nurturing, friendly, compassionate and a respectful member of the Dexter Southfield community
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and/or CampMinder Software, a plus.

This employee will be responsible for a wide range of physical activities in multiple locations on and off campus in all types of weather. There will be times of strenuous activity physical activity as well as times of prolonged computer and desk work and everything in between these two.
