Description

SUMMARY 

Oversees all aspects for Vertical Business Unit: Directs, coordinates, and performs production, quality, and safety activities of a specific VBU by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for VBU: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ensure safety of all team member in VBU by following the Step-up Program to achieve safety KPI.

Reviews, prioritizes, and sequences dispatch schedules generated by the Materials and Scheduling Team to meet customer scheduled delivery dates. Identifies personnel requirements to complete the schedule for the shift. Coordinates with HR and the Manufacturing Manager to get additional resources if necessary. Identifies operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems in the VBU to minimize costs and prevent operational delays.

Chairs the weekly VBU meeting. Coordinates the meeting in conjunction with the opposite shifts’ during shift overlap. VBU meetings consist of reviewing VBU scoreboard (5S, Safety, Customer and Internal quality, utilization, and OTD), workload, resource needs, team member concerns, and opportunities for improvement. 

Communicates daily with the Team Leads/Points: the dispatch schedule; WIP part status; quality issues; workload; and necessary information to ensure optimal throughput and quality for the next shift.

Maximizes VBU utilization by defining action items (individual or for the team) in meeting and exceeding the 85% target.

Maximizes VBU quality measures (customer and internal) by defining action items in meeting and exceeding the company target.

Maximizes VBU 5S measures by defining action items in meeting and exceeding the company target.

Determines the skill and knowledge requirements of each team member in the VBU in conjunction with Process Trainer to schedule the appropriate training.

Performs frequent quality inspections with new team members; team members unfamiliar with the product; and problem parts identified by the Quality Manager. Responsible in addressing all quality issues (internal and customer) with team members. Identifies preventive actions to ensure mistakes do not happen again. 

Build the DeWys culture through Road to Success with Direction from Manufacturing Manager.

Owns employee turnover for VBU. Develop plans for employee retention.

Personal Development: through DeWys training program, Davenport University, and user groups to bring innovative ideas and best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Preform reviews in conjunction. Identifies personnel issues to the Manufacturing Manager.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with 5 or more years’ experience in manufacturing, preferably metal fabrication; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, safety rules, work rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, communicates, and responds to questions from team members, customers, and suppliers. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must pass the DeWys competency test.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess good critical thinking skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License to be licensed as a qualified lift truck driver at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc.

While performing the duties of this job, the team leader is regularly required to stand; team member is frequently required to communicate with fellow team members and walk throughout the VS. The team member is occasionally required to sit while performing administrative duties. Team member may on occasion be required to climb, balance, and crawl underneath machines when performing necessary repairs or maintenance. The team leader must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The team member is occasionally exposed to high places, fumes and airborne particles when performing grinding operations, and toxic and caustic chemicals when cleaning tools. Team member is also exposed to outside weather conditions when unloading sheet metal supplies. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud requiring hearing protection to be worn at all times. Safety glasses must also be worn at all times by team members.
