Job Description 

POSITION TITLE: Client Benefit Specialist

DIVISION: Programs

SUPERVISOR: Residential Director

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

STATUS: Full-Time

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Provide benefit administration in compliance with CARF, BDDS, social security, CMS and BQIS standards through timely, accurate benefits management for persons served, while performing administrative functions as directed by the immediate supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the management of benefits for persons served in both waiver and group home services. Prepare all required documentation for Medicaid and social security eligibility and SNAP benefits. Complete applications, submit required paperwork and ensure that all persons served maintain eligibility and benefits remain active. Provide required information to internal and external sources including, but not limited to, agency staff, case manager, guardian, and person served to meet Medicaid waiver requirements. Fill out yearly lease renewals for clients with housing assistance.
  • Establish ARC, Miller, ABLE and funeral trust accounts for all persons served.
  • Establish and maintain auto, homeowners, and renter’s insurance, including tracking and ensuring renewals for Supported Living (RHS) Rep Payee clients.
  • Ensure current documentation is uploaded in provide for all persons served according to Bona Vista policies.
  • Communicate with and provide documentation to case manager and guardians as requested.
  • Annually apply for energy assistance (EAP) through Area V for Supported Living (RHS) Rep Payee persons served.
  • Attend person-centered planning meetings quarterly as requested.
  • Remain updated and familiar with CARF, State BOH, state and federal laws, BQIS, DDRS, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Audit residential client finances to ensure balances do not exceed monthly resource limits and assist with supported living clients monthly resource review. Move funds to ABLE accts- or work with programs to keep individual resources under resource.
  • Assist clients with special projects such as getting quotes for home repairs/maintenance, special purchases, pest control, lawn care, utilities, cable, and internet. Coordinate and communicate with staff, case managers, and guardians as needed regarding such services.
  • Perform all administrative functions as assigned by the immediate supervisor when functions of the job do not meet the time requirements of full-time work.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Attend/request related training as authorized.
  • Promote and display positive attitude and an overall commitment to the agency’s mission, values, and vision.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in rehabilitation, social services, special education, or related field preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • Previous experience working with adults with disabilities or similar background desired.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability in word processing and verbal presentation.
  • Maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license, and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier. Maintain insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD w/Medical liability coverage). Current proof of insurance must be maintained in personnel file per BQIS regulation.
  • Must possess and maintain reliable transportation that meets state requirements for transporting persons served.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR, CPI, and first aid certification annually and perform as necessary.
  • Must be able to do such physical acts as operate calculator or computer keyboard with average speed and access existing records storage which may include lifting (up to 40 pounds without assistance) reaching and bending.
