Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Claims Specialist to join our team. As a Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and managing insurance claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations. Your role will involve reviewing medical records, coding diagnoses and procedures, and communicating with healthcare providers and insurance companies.
Duties:
- Review and analyze medical records to determine the appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered
- Accurately assign ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG codes to ensure proper billing and reimbursement
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain additional information or clarification on claims
- Verify patient eligibility and coverage with insurance companies
- Submit claims electronically or by mail within specified deadlines
- Follow up on outstanding claims and resolve any issues or discrepancies
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines, insurance regulations, and workers compensation laws
- Maintain accurate documentation of claims processing activities
Experience:
- Previous experience in medical billing or claims processing is highly preferred
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Strong understanding of ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG coding systems
- Familiarity with Medicare guidelines and reimbursement policies
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with complex information
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims simultaneously
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and internal teams
