Detroit Zoological Society is Hiring an Events Coordinator Near Royal, MI

Events Coordinator
The Events Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the development, planning and implementation of all Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) special events and promotions with emphasis on maximizing revenue and attendance. The Events Coordinator will work as a team with any and all necessary departments to facilitate event operations.
This job description is by no means all-inclusive and may be subject to change at any time due to the needs of the DZS and its leadership. This document will be reviewed on a continual basis and will be modified as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the events department on the creation, implementation and facilitation of all event details
  • Spearhead all restaurant solicitation, service agreements, check requests, etc. for Sunset at the Zoo
  • Coordinate deliverables following Sunset at the Zoo
  • Collaborates with the Events Team for day-of-event logistics and problem solving
  • Assist with promotion and content creation as needed
  • Work closely with the Private Events Team to assist with various event logistics, such as creating layouts, banquet event orders, invoices and responding to inquiries
  • Proactively generate new ideas for enhancing existing events and create new ideas for future events
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers and assist with additional activities as needed
  • Serve on associated Zoo committees and carry out resulting commitments
  • Maintain involvement with industry-related professional organizations.
  • Assist with set up, tear down and all other event-related activities as needed
  • All other responsibilities and tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in related field
  • Previous event coordination experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must work and communicate in a professional manner
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening and public speaking skills
  • Must be very organized with strong time management skills and must be detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Very good reasoning, decision making and problem-solving skills as well as internal organization, persuasion and recruiting skills
  • Must exhibit initiative and teamwork
  • Valid driver’s license required
Working Conditions
The regular work schedule includes working evenings, weekends, early mornings and some holidays. The work environment is generally comfortable, and work is done both indoors and outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions. This individual will be exposed to computer monitors and will have exposure to outside weather conditions, as well as the output from air conditioning, heating systems and fluorescent lighting.
Physical Requirements
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping for extended periods, the ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds, and the use of standard office equipment and the computer.
The individual must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily with or without accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
