Detroit Zoological Society is Hiring an Education Department Seasonal Aide Near Royal, MI

Education Department Seasonal Aide

As a member of the Education Team, the part-time Seasonal Aide will work to support Seasonal Instructors in facilitating the Zoo’s education programs, with a primary emphasis on supporting after-hour and weekend programs. These programs may include Nocturnal Adventures, Twilight Trail Evening Camps, Overnights or Scout programs.
All candidates must attend training before the start of work.
Pay Rate:
$15/ Hour
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Support Seasonal Instructors with education programs for audiences of all ages as part of the Education team.
Support Seasonal Instructors with groups on hikes throughout the Zoo, hands-on activities, games, and singing.
Greet guests and program participants enthusiastically and provide information to enhance their visit.
Be familiar with all facets of the Zoo to answer questions accurately or know what resources to call upon to do so.
Contribute to a positive, high-energy, safe experience.
Assist Zoo Overnights and Nocturnal Adventures - remain at the Zoo after hours and occasionally overnight.
Must be available for a flexible work schedule, including weekend or weekday mornings, daytime, evenings, nights, and holidays.
Assist with program setup and breakdown.
All other responsibilities and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Must be 18 years or older
Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent with experience in a zoological institution or youth organization OR enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Education, General Science, Zoology, Biology or other related field
Experience working with people of all ages, especially children

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiar with biology, environmental science or animal welfare concepts and a willingness to learn more.
Must learn to use a computer, printer, two-way radio and iPad
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Must be reasonable, diplomatic and use common sense to make sound decisions
Must have the ability to think quickly and identify solutions to address issues before they escalate
Must be professional and have a cheerful, friendly, social disposition
Before hire, one must clear a background check and pre-employment drug screening

Working Conditions
Flexible schedule includes evenings, weekends and occasional early-morning or weekday shifts.
The work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping for extended periods. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee must be able to lift and move 25 pounds and perform the job's essential functions satisfactorily, with or without accommodations.
