Detroit Baptist Manor is Hiring a Building Maintenance Worker and Painter Near Farmington, MI

The Baptist Manor is a non-profit, faith-based organization that has provided affordable, quality housing and personal care to senior citizens for the past 64 years. Under the sponsorship of area churches and through the private support of caring neighbors, our unique complex has grown to become a 35-acre campus with multiple programs. The campus consists of five communities all in Farmington Hills, MI. The residents residing at The Baptist Manor come from many cultural, ethnic backgrounds and income levels. We provide a much needed housing option for the significantly under-served/underprivileged low-income segment of the senior population residing in the Metropolitan Detroit Area.

We are currently in need of a General Maintenance Worker (HVAC experience preferred) to join our awesome team! Position starts at $16 - 20.00/hour--depending on experience.

  • Under the direction of the Director of Plant Operations or designee, the Maintenance Department is responsible for maintaining the buildings, grounds and equipment used therein, in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local requirements for the care and safety of the residents, staff and visitors of The Baptist Manor. Performance of these responsibilities is in accordance with all standard operating procedures, processes and abilities of the person’s charge with those responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs preventative, corrective and general maintenance on:

1. Heating, plumbing, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

2. Commercial compactors, garbage disposals and heavy-duty kitchen equipment, where applicable.

3. Commercial heavy-duty industrial and residential types of laundry equipment where applicable.

4. Facility equipment such as wheelchairs, lift chairs, tables, desks, walkers, and other assorted equipment used in the care of the residents of The Baptist Manor.

5. Interior and exterior surfaces of building to include minor roof repairs.

6. Electrical wiring and emergency generator systems. Inspects and tests equipment and system.

7. Installs or repairs window blinds.

8. Implement snow removal procedures when needed.

9. Must be able to use all types of common hand and electrical tools and observe safety requirements and procedures in the use of heavy-duty shop machines.

10. Use all types of ladders.

11. Accepts responsibility for being on call, when in rotation, for weekends, nights and vacation relief and holidays.

12. Accepts responsibility for security, fire and disaster procedures.

13. Carpentry related tasks such as erection of steel/wood stud walls, application and finishing of drywall, setting door frames, installation of drop ceilings and other related repair tasks as needed.

14. Documentation of work performed on the Daily Dispatch Log, as well as recording, per procedure, in the Daily Log and completion of the Rounds Log.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

There are no formal educational requirements for this position. However, the employee must have a working knowledge:

* HVAC Systems * Plumbing Systems

* Electrical Systems * Carpentry Procedures

* Painting/Papering Procedures * Grounds Maintenance

An employee must complete on-the-job training and orientation in procedures, policies, and safety. An employee must be able to recognize, understand, and use proper safety procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must frequently lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds or more. There is heavy moving involved when unloading a truck. Would have to lift or move heavy equipment in the facility such as beds, files, boxes and motors. Equipment and help is available to assist in moving large objects. Wear back brace provided by The Baptist Manor.
