Shipping/Receiving Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Is responsible for supervising employees in the shipping, receiving, and inventory control functions. Ensures Released Open Order Report (ROO) and the daily Complete Order Report are followed per shipping priorities and ensures conformance to shipping/receiving requirements and schedules. Assigns daily tasks and ensures completion of new employee training based on customer requirements, quality specifications, and shipping lead timelines. Performs other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Hires, supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates work completed by department staff for conformance to specified standards, purchase order receiving, and associated ROO reports.
  • Responsible for assigned areas of oversight’s efficiency, productivity, and accountability.
  • Ensures barcode process is used effectively and consistently for packed, shipped, and inventory of parts and products, thus shipping/receiving/stocking functions are organized and effective. Completes in-process inspection to ensure processes are accurate.
  • Collaborates with Quality Auditor to ensure material received and shipping output meets quality requirements to eliminate variances, waste, and customer complaints.
  • Maintains schedules and coordinates with others to ensure appropriate levels of materials and parts are available in point of use and overflow locations.
  • Participates in all aspects of receiving, shipping, and inventory control.
  • Reviews Released Open Order Report (ROO) and the daily Complete Order Report to ensure orders are accurately pulled and shipped on time per the ROO’s and Complete Order Report’s outlined priorities. Ensure shipping orders and priorities are followed. Communicate any deviations immediately to the Operations Manager.
  • Stays current on freight and postal regulations.
  • Assures department equipment and machinery are maintained and properly operating.
  • Prepares annual budget with the Material Control Manager and operates within same.
  • Ensures materials are stocked in assigned location and observes first-in/first-out (FIFO) requirements and participates in cycle counts.
  • Maintains appearance standards, presence, and professional communication skills and ensures employee needs are met: time off request reviewed and timely responses to requests/concerns to ensure a high level of employee dignity and respect.
  • Reports building, equipment sanitation, OSHA, and Safety concerns immediately.
  • Monitors assigned team members’ attendance and performance: Document and report assigned team members’ policy/procedure violation(s) and/or performance deficiencies timely and follow thru with support for applicable and appropriate corrective action.
  • Fosters excellent communication internally and externally.
  • Supports other departments with lead times and other information as needed.
  • Analyzes data and develops strategies for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Supports the development of department key performance indicators (KPIs) for monthly review/analysis of actual results vs. plan and drives improvements.
  • Is responsible for the development and maintenance of succession plans and cross-training to ensure business continuity.
  • Adheres to and enforces company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: Associate degree in Supply Chain Management or Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate and a minimum of five years experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory control in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience. Strong time management, leadership, mentoring, and cross-training experience. Bachler’s Degree preferred. Certifications such as APICS CPIM are desirable.

  • Knowledge of and skill in shipping, receiving, and inventory control practices and procedures with thorough knowledge of LTL, LCL, FTL, and FCL freight procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply lean manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Attentive to detail with good planning time management skills, and willing to assume a variety of shipping/receiving related tasks.
  • Forklift certification and competency in operating forklift, aerial lift, pallet jack, and other required shipping equipment and other motorized equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform shipping, receiving, and inventory control procedures.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculation and filing and skill in operating office equipment, including computer, email, and web searches (mail, UPS, FedEx, etc.…).
  • Ability to maintain records, and documents and compile and organize reports accurately.
  • Ability to operate postage equipment and manual and electronic shipping equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret shipping orders and shipping/receiving invoices.
  • Skills in effectively listening and communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Be willing to work weekend hours, and overtime as required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required.

  • Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand-eye coordination, utilizing near and far vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity necessary to operate basic office equipment which are essential aspects of this position.
