ABOUT THE JOB
Deschutes County is accepting applications for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office – Adult Jail. This position acts as a member of the Sheriff’s Office medical team and provides basic direct practical nursing care to Adults in Custody (AIC) in the Adult Jail. Incumbent receives procedural instructions for assisting in the delivery of patient healthcare services through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, regarding the scope and approach to medical care to ensure patients’ physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Completes health assessments on individuals when admitted to the Adult Jail; evaluate, observe and report physical and mental health conditions.
  • Provides assistance to registered nurses or medical providers as needed.
  • Preparing accurate written documentation, records of nursing care given and patient progress notes.
What You Will Bring: 
Knowledge of or experience with:
  • Nursing practices and principles as applied to licensed practical nursing.
  • Principles and practices of general office administration, file management, record keeping, case management, and records management.
  • Clinical processes and procedures including scheduling, paperwork, and assisting other professionals.
Skill in:
  • Interview and assess physical information of clients.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program; 
  • AND one (1) year of related experience; 
  • OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
Possession of State of Oregon license as a Practical Nurse upon date of hire.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
Must pass a pre-qualifying driving record review and criminal history background. 
  • A current driver's license and the state of origin are required. Candidates who wish to be considered for this position must include an accurate driver's license number and state of origin on their application under the Personal Information section. 
  • Background Investigation: A successful candidate who receives a conditional job offer will complete a full background investigation and interview.
