SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPSReports to: Camp Director & Assistant Director
Supervises: n/a
BASIC FUNCTIONServe as primary caregiver responsible for safety and care of campers at all times. Counselors will implement the programing, physical/recreational activities including, field trips and swimming set by the Director and Assistant Director. Counselors will report directly to the Camp Director. Working schedule; M-F, an 8 hour shift between 7:30am-6:00pm at a Des Plaines Park District Camp for an 8 week period, shift may change at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES1. Report to the Recreation Supervisor, Assistant Camp Manager, Camp Director, Assistant Director
2. Attend all preseason training sessions and staff meetings.
3. Adhere to Des Plaines Park District policies, procedures and safety standards.
4. Responsible for the safety, education, and recreational programming for the participants.
5. Creating and implementing program activities daily and have them approved by the Director.
6. Must supervise campers closely during all activities and at all times.
7. Supervise camper swim time in assigned zone set by Directors.
8. Attend and supervise campers on field trips and outings.
9. Work cooperatively as a team member with all other staff members.
10. Take proper care of all camp equipment and supplies.
11. Assist with the start and end of day cleanup.
12. Submit routine paperwork such as Accident/Incident Reports, Time-Off Request Forms.
13. Supervise and lead group activity sessions and program areas as assigned.
14. Organize and instruct activities while maintaining control of the program and its participants.
15. Enforce camp rules.
16. Maintain open lines of communication with Director and Assistant Director.
17. Any other related duties.
OTHER DUTIES1. Administer First Aid, when required
2. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual and Crisis Manual.
3. Direct participants in the event of an emergency, such as fire, severe weather.
4. Communicate with Recreation Supervisor regarding any equipment needing repair or replacement.
5. Attend related training as requested.
6. Additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of some High School or higher education
Experience: Must be 17 years of age or older.
Previous experience working with children between the ages of 4-12 years old.
Previous camp experience desired.
Must pass Illinois State Police Criminal Background check.
Individual employed for this position must be able to effectively communicate with campers and staff.
Must be able to physically accompany campers, interact with campers, deal with improper behavior and address emergency situations.
Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification, Classes available through Park District
