Under the supervision of a Hatchery Manager I, the incumbent will assist in the production and release of Central Valley fall-run Chinook salmon and American River steelhead to fulfill mitigation requirements of the United States Bureau of Reclamation for habitat lost due to the construction of Nimbus Dam. Incumbent will also be required to perform maintenance on grounds, equipment, and buildings at the Nimbus Hatchery.
The Nimbus Fish Hatchery is located on the beautiful American River. The Hatchery is a key production facility supporting populations of Central Valley fall-run Chinook Salmon and American River steelhead trout and major contributor to California's commercial and recreational fisheries. This position consists of a wide variety of duties, many of which are labor intensive and tedious. Fish and Wildlife Technicians at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery may be spawning 40 pound adult Chinook salmon one day and inventorying millions of eggs or performing facility and equipment maintenance the next.
