DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE is Hiring a FISH AND WILDLIFE TECHNICIAN Near Sacramento, CA

Under the supervision of a Hatchery Manager I, the incumbent will assist in the production and release of Central Valley fall-run Chinook salmon and American River steelhead to fulfill mitigation requirements of the United States Bureau of Reclamation for habitat lost due to the construction of Nimbus Dam. Incumbent will also be required to perform maintenance on grounds, equipment, and buildings at the Nimbus Hatchery.
The Nimbus Fish Hatchery is located on the beautiful American River. The Hatchery is a key production facility supporting populations of Central Valley fall-run Chinook Salmon and American River steelhead trout and major contributor to California's commercial and recreational fisheries. This position consists of a wide variety of duties, many of which are labor intensive and tedious. Fish and Wildlife Technicians at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery may be spawning 40 pound adult Chinook salmon one day and inventorying millions of eggs or performing facility and equipment maintenance the next. Working Conditions

Work site will be the Nimbus Fish Hatchery located at 2001 Nimbus Road, Rancho Cordova. Will work in remote areas, work weekends, and holidays as needed or when required. Work will occur in extreme weather conditions and away from hatchery as required for field work, remote spawning, fish rescue, and fish habitat improvement projects. Indoor tasks are performed within hatchery buildings that may be poorly lit and have the constant sound of running water.
Outside tasks require employees to stand or walk in water or on uneven ground while performing manual labor. Occasional overnight

travel may be required. Will regularly drive state vehicles and is required to possess a Class C California Driver’s License, maintain a clean driving record, and wear a prescribed CDFW uniform. No State Housing is available.

Special Requirements

Ability to swim at least 50 yards and to stay afloat at least five minutes; good physical condition; and ability to lift 40 pounds. Ability to stand or walk on uneven ground or in water.
