Department of Conservation & Recreation is Hiring a Maintenance Ranger Near Woodbridge, VA

Leesylvania State Park is currently seeking a responsible, goal-oriented individual who can work as part of a team, take direction from others, and is capable of working unsupervised. This position focuses on the daily upkeep of park facilities, grounds, and positive interaction with a diverse public. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, restroom and facilities cleaning, trash removal, and landscaping. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, the following: providing supervision, oversight, and training to other wage/seasonal maintenance staff and volunteers; performing basic upkeep and maintenance of equipment and vehicles; reporting repair needs as required to supervisor.

No benefits are associated with wage or seasonal positions which are limited to, but not guaranteed, 1500 hours of work from May 1 to April 30th each year.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a general knowledge of best practices for cleaning and upkeep of facilities including the safe use of cleaning supplies and associated personal protective equipment (PPE); basic care and use of automobiles, hand tools, and power tools. Must be willing to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and closing shifts. Must be able to utilize mobile device applications for the purpose of scheduling and work task completion and tracking. Must be 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation to and from work.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge, skills, and abilities of the following are preferred, but not necessary: janitorial services, groundskeeping and landscaping; experience working in any parks setting; supervisory experience; knowledge of basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, light and/or heavy equipment usage.

DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:

Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.

Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
