About this job:
Responsible for leading the following teams within the department, Emergency Management, Preventative and Restorative Services, Youth Violence Prevention, and Bullying Prevention. Assist with the development and oversight of staff, budgets, administration, policies, and procedures. This role is responsible for leading a team focused on designing, implementing, and evaluating prevention programs that foster a welcoming, safe and inclusive learning environment within Denver Public Schools. Oversees district-wide Access Control, Fingerprinting and Badging Office, and the bond program management. Will collaborate with various stakeholders, including district leaders, school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community partners, to develop comprehensive programming that promotes positive school climate, student well-being, and violence prevention initiatives within the district.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and manage a team of prevention program specialists, ensuring effective program design, implementation, and evaluation. Develop and implement a strategic vision for prevention programs that aligns with the goals and values of Denver Public Schools
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external agencies, organizations, and community
  • Collaborate with the Department of Mental Health to develop, and implement evidence-based prevention programs that address key areas such as bullying, violence prevention strategies, and other climate-related challenges.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and staff to identify needs, establish priorities, and customize prevention programs and training to meet the unique requirements of individual schools and student populations
  • Develop data-driven evaluation frameworks to assess the impact and effectiveness of prevention programs and monitor program outcomes
  • Stay informed about local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to prevention programs and ensure compliance with relevant mandates. Ensure the school district remains in compliance with all federal, state, local and district regulations regarding safety management
  • Collaborate with district leadership to develop, review, and revise policies and procedures related to climate and safety and integrate prevention-focused content into professional development initiatives for teachers and staff
  • Serve as a member of the Department’s Command and Leadership team and collaborates with district leadership and external stakeholders to drive service requirements and ensure safe school communities
  • Assist in annual budget development and regular reporting
  • Serves as a member of the district emergency team in the event of a district-wide emergency

What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum- Bachelor’s Degree- Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business, Management
  • Preferred- Master’s Degree
  • 5 years’ experience in leading prevention programs, preferably in an educational setting
  • 3 years of Management Responsibility
  • NIMS 100,200,300,400 and 800 required. CEPTED Certification
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy
  • Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team
  • Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization
  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner
  • Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources
  • Ability to motivate and influence others
  • Possess a high level of knowledge of emergency management, local, state, and federal laws and ordinances and the ability to work closely with all persons responsible for enforcement.
  • Complete knowledge of duties and responsibilities of ERCM Specialists
  • Familiar with all operational procedures and policies of the department and the base functions of other divisions and units of the department and other departments in the District.
  • Knowledge of school district policies and procedures, regulation and bylaws, and the legal environment within which they operate.
  • Ability to organize and motivate high level employees to work together and achieve common goals.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision performing complicated assignments within established deadlines. Possess strong analytical and computational skills with the ability and tact to present complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and conduct public presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Must be familiar with federal, state and local laws in order to interpret and disseminate such regulations as they relate to emergency response and crisis management.
  • Requires frequent travel throughout the district.
  • Must be able to work under pressure maintaining composure and focus under stress.
  • Must be a proven leader with the ability to provide strategies in delivering district emergency plan and initiatives.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in the field of emergency management and crisis response.
  • Able to supervise and develop staff and encourage innovative thinking in service delivery.
  • Must be able to work within a team and advise the Chief on matters of emergency management.
  • Ability to possess a Colorado Concealed Carry Handgun Permit.
  • Ability to successfully pass and maintain all district requirements related to carrying a firearm while on and off duty.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
