Denver Health is Hiring a Lean and System Optimization Director Near Denver, CO

Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, is responsible for oversight of Denver Health’s Lean department and coordinates with other key areas to support system optimization. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director is a key leader for Denver Health and a dynamic change agent charged with leading and advancing the culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Champions Lean culture transformation and sustainment across all areas of Denver Health
  • Works directly and collaboratively with COO and peer leaders to support alignment, action planning and deployment with measurable and demonstrated results towards organizational goals
  • Mentors, guides, and coaches direct reports in order to expand their capabilities and build management depth in the organization for succession planning to include a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Establishes and maintains leader standard work to include such things as Gemba walks, problem solving, and huddles.
  • Employs Lean concepts to successfully manage and develop the teams; A3 problem solving, Pareto principle, leading and lagging metrics, strategic alignment, etc.
  • Works closely with all members of leadership to establish standard work to review progress towards organizational goals through assessments of organization’s threats, opportunities, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Attends formal educational classes as required by Denver Health. Pursues learning opportunities to enhance performance.
  • Creates and maintains a culture of performance improvement and change management using Lean and other tools.
  • Monitors and measures the outcomes from improvement activities from a programmatic perspective and that aligns with the organizational goals/metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to hear their voice. This includes partnering with them to assess, analyze and prepare recommendations for their operational and service/business needs.
  • Leads and facilitates cross-functional workgroups to systemically analyze complex problems, draw relevant conclusions and successfully implement appropriate solutions.
  • Develops and coordinates Lean Transformation Training for the organization in a way that optimizes performance to organizational goals/metrics. Establishes and maintains administratively responsibility for DH Lean Academy, including consultant contracts.
  • Prepares necessary and required reports or dashboards to leadership, including summary reports and information necessary for ongoing management.
  • Provides leadership, onboarding, orientation, training and competency assurance of facilitators and other Lean staff.
  • Responsible for liaising with support departments (IT, Telecomm, Contracts, Finance, Quality, Recruiting) to ensure business objectives.
  • Serves as liaison with internal and external clients to ensure contract compliance and overall customer satisfaction, customer service and quality goals.
  • Attends meetings, visits clients to maintain an awareness of their needs and programmatic changes impacting the appointment center and medical interpretation.
  • Develops and executes appropriate communication strategies to ensure project, department and organizational success with respect to Lean strategies and tactics.
  • Ensure that operations are managed within the established guidelines and budget for area(s) of direct operational oversight.
  • Assists COO with special projects within Denver Health as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of experience in leadership and supervisory experience of a team within lean management required.
  • Experience in overseeing a complex business functions in a dynamic organization, healthcare experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Special Skills required include business acumen, strategic planning, organization assessment, highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of all health system services.
  • Strong data and analytical skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively perform under tight deadlines.
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Lean Toyota Production System implementation and approach.
  • Strong financial analysis and decision support skills.
  • Effective team building skills.
  • Able to document and measure results.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Able to drive change up and down the organization.
Computers and Technology
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong Knowledge of Lean tools.
  • Strong knowledge of SmartSheet.
  • Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
1. Lean certification required, black belt certification preferred. Supervisory Responsibilities This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, hiring, terminating, performance management, coaching, supervision, fostering teamwork, training and development of one or more employees.
