This position is grant funded, and continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.


Primary Purpose:

The Campus Behavior Specialist (CBS) collaborates with students, staff and families to ensure every child is successful. The CBS provides embedded, visible support that responds to the teachers providing intervention and student needs in an ongoing, consistent, dedicated way; engages staff in the study and use of effective classroom management and intervention strategies for all students, including those in Tier II and Tier III Intervention; provides support systems to implement district PBIS with fidelity, and creates coordinated professional development that is responsive to student behavior data and teacher management needs.


Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • ESL certification (preferred)


Experience

  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience (preferred)
  • Experience implementing behavior intervention strategies in the classroom (preferred)


Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates ability to build effective relationships with staff, students, and family members
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supports the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports campuswide.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and shares student discipline data regularly, and uses data to make decisions.
  • Facilitates PLC groups focused on behavior and specific strategies for each tier.
  • Provides professional development for staff related to campus and district goals.
  • Supports the creation of school environments that build mutual respect among leadership, teachers, students, and families.
  • Supports the creation and maintenance of positive collaborative partnerships among families, communities, and schools to support student learning.
  • Develops and manages an in-classroom support schedule, including meetings with teachers to analyze student behavior data, review classroom management, and plan for tiered behavior support.
  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral interventions.
  • Provides supplemental resources/materials to teachers to help students meet basic grade level behavior standards.
  • Increases the quality and effectiveness of Tier II and Tier III Behavior Intervention.
  • Designs a system that intentionally teaches essential academic and social behavior standards similar to how academics are taught.
  • Assists in the planning, developing, and implementing student behavior plans.
  • Maintains current knowledge of educational research, materials and strategies by attending meetings, training and conferences pertaining to district identified behavior intervention processes.

  • Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
