BET ON BALTIMORE (BoB) is a paid, intensive summer internship for innovative youth to become our next entrepreneurs, designers, technologists, and engineers! Our staff, Baltimore’s educators and innovators, bring their passion for our mission and industry-experience to build a more vibrant Baltimore alongside our Denters!

In 5 weeks (July 8th - August 9th), Denters understand challenges and apply the creative problem-solving process of design thinking: they empathize with actual clients and users, brainstorm solutions, and test prototypes to challenges they're passionate about. They learn and use 21st century maker skills like 3D printing, graphic design, A.I. and Cricut vinyl cutting. In leveraging durable mindsets, Denters serve clients or launch real-world ventures that sell products or address community issues!

About The Role: Program Coordinator Position

As the Bet on Baltimore Program Coordinator, you will oversee Dent’s entire Bet on Baltimore (BoB) operation. You represent Dent to all BoB stakeholders - youth, staff, framilies, and partners - and are responsible for them having delightful experiences.

This role requires a collaborative, action-oriented, and tech-forward leader with deep alignment - and ideally experienced - with Dent's mission, Mindsets, Secret Sauce, and approach to impactful education. You will run program-wide events and operations, oversee curriculum implementation, be proactive in resolving on-site issues, and uphold Dent’s vision and expectations of excellence with all stakeholders.

During the 5 weeks of BoB (July 8th-August 9th), you will be guiding a staff of 14 - 8 , 2 , & 2 Fellows - at 4 as they support 64 Baltimore high school students through a project-based learning internship.

You will report to Dent’s CEO and lead collaborate with BoB’s Support Squad: Site Supporters, Fellows, & Dent’s Full-Time Team.

Note: Dent will hire either this role or a Associate Director of Programs, not both.

In this position, you will:

Guide BoB Overall & BoB-Wide Events

  • Act as the primary liaison between Dent Education and all Bet on Baltimore stakeholders including students, parents, and community partners.
  • Organize, delegate responsibilities, and lead the execution of BoB events ensuring high levels of participation, youth voice, engagement, and feedback
  • Oversee BoB’s curriculum's implementation, adapting it if needed and working with staff to ensure it meets Dent’s standards of excellence and real-world impact.
  • Communicate daily with Support Squad (Full-Time Team, Site Supporters, & Fellows)to share learnings, insights, and needs
  • Identify emergent needs for, purchase, organize distribution, and optimize use of site supplies & equipment
  • Ensure BoB is delivered to youth excellently and consistently across Sites

Facilitate Staff Training, Excellence, & Well-Being

  • Facilitate Coach Onboarding and weekly Support Squad and Staff All-Hands Meetings to align team efforts, address staff concerns, and iterate on programs.
  • Support Site Supporters in their roles to ensure they are effective and have the resources they need to succeed and support Coaches, Fellows, and Students
  • Evaluate Staff to provide tangible positive and constructive feedback weekly

Handle Emergencies, Represent Dent with All Stakeholders, & Take on Key Projects

  • Represent Dent Education with external partners, including Field Trip Hosts, Denternship Hosts, Clients, Space Partners, & Food-for-Thought Speakers.
  • Manage emergencies and unexpected challenges, effectively putting out fires and maintaining program stability.
  • Other BoB-wide projects will be delegated based on skill-set between the Support Squad: Program Coordinator, Site Supporters, Fellows, and Full-Time Staff.

BoB-Wide Projects that will be delegated among the Support Squad include:

  • Mental health & wellness support, training, and/or curriculum
  • Design thinking & entrepreneurship lessons adaptation, support, & implementation
  • Events such as Orientation, Kick-Off, BoB Showcase, Field Trips, and/or Field Day
  • Data collection for impact measurement and grant reporting purchase
  • Curriculum, Lesson Plan Creation, and Presentation Creation
  • Social Media & Dent Storytelling

Position Qualifications

  • Are from Baltimore and/or have a strong awareness of the city’s social and cultural landscape
  • Have experience teaching those skills
  • Have led projects or launched your own venture leveraging those skills
  • Have expertise in design thinking, innovation, mental health, or entrepreneurship
  • Have over 2 years of Youth Development experience (teacher, coach, mentor, etc.)
  • Have excelled as a member of the Dent team and have BoB experience
  • Are content experts in the creative / maker skills we are offering as demonstrated by experience teaching those skills or leading projects or launching your own venture leveraging those skills

PROGRAM DETAILS

Onboarding Dates/Hours:

  • June 10th Week: 10 hrs - Role Onboarding
  • 15 hrs for asynchronous review and prep of Curriculum, Kickoff, Dent Systems
  • 20 hrs Support Squad Onboarding: June 13th -June 21st (final dates and times determined according to staff preference)
  • 10 hrs: prep to run Coach Onboarding

Coach Onboarding - 46 hours:

  • Monday, June 24th - Wednesday, July 3rd
  • All-Staff: 10 am - 4 pm
  • 12:30-1:30 pm unpaid lunch
  • Schedule 6 total hrs to review & prep curriculum with staff
  • In-person at 1707 N Charles St, Suite 202 Baltimore, MD 21201

Program Dates / Hours:

  • 40 hrs/week, 9am - 5 pm
  • 15 hrs to help wrap up BoB

Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • 1 PTO day with 2 days of advanced notice
  • 1 Emergent Needs (Sick, Mental Health) day
  • After 2 days, other days missed are unpaid
  • If out 5 hours in a day, its is consider PTO
  • August 8th BoB Showcase, 1:30-8:30 pm
  • BoB Closing Social (August 9th) is fun, optional, and unpaid

Location:

  • Based in or relocate to Baltimore City, MD - Homebase is Dent HQ, 1707 N Charles Street

Compensation:

  • $8,316 total

Regular time commitments include:

  • BoB Site Visits including observing Coaches & participating in Site activities
  • Running Coach Onboarding, Weekly Support Squad Meeting, Weekly Staff All-Hands, and Dent-Wide Events: Kick-Off, Pop-Up,& Showcase
  • Support logistics and communicating involving external partners (field trips etc.)
