Denali Universal Services Recruiting is Hiring a Turnaround Security Officer: BP Cherry Point Refinery Near Cherry, WA

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Security Sergeant, Turnaround (TAR) Security Officers provide protection of work sites, personnel, and assets from events such as trespassing, unauthorized entry, and other disruptive incidents. Performing access control at a perimeter gate (traffic or walk-thru booth) or conducting security patrols is the core function of the position.

This is a temporary, full-time position for the period of refinery turnaround maintenance at a client site. Duration is approx. 6-8 weeks, with potential permanent employment dependent upon staffing vacancies and the individual’s work performance.

*Applicable WA security license, fingerprinting, and TWIC fees will be paid by the employer.

WORK SCHEDULE

Turnaround Security Officers work 12-hour day or night shifts on a 7-day schedule. Every two weeks, employees work 64 hours at a regular pay rate, with 20 hours paid as overtime. During a turnaround period, this position has an opportunity to earn additional overtime pay working extra shifts.

Open availability and flexibility are required to meet the contract needs of the client.

There are times when employees may be asked to work on days that would ordinarily be their scheduled days off. These additional pay opportunities include scheduled refinery turnaround periods and covering open shifts when needed. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) or able to obtain
  • State of Washington Security Officer license or able to obtain
  • Ability to speak, write, and comprehend the English language and apply written and verbal policies/procedures.
  • This position requires open availability for days, nights, weekends, or holidays.

*The candidate must successfully pass the company’s pre-employment screening process, including a drug screen, criminal background investigation, and physical exam/fitness for duty (FCE) evaluation.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Customer service-related field.
  • Previous experience in security, military, law enforcement or fire service (paid or volunteer).
  • Experience working at an oil refinery, manufacturing, or other industrial facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to work in a safe manner and follow client safety policy at all times.
  • Performs duties during the day or night, in a variety of settings, environments, and varying weather conditions
  • Primary access control functions include checking identification cards or access badges, and processing visitors and escorts to verify individuals are authorized to enter the facility.
  • Perform searches of vehicles, delivery trucks, and conduct personnel screening of toolboxes, backpacks, and lunch boxes.
  • Operate gate traffic barriers to prevent unauthorized entry of vehicles and monitor all activity within view for safety hazards and suspicious or unusual activity.
  • Perform foot patrols and safely operate a motor vehicle to conduct security patrols.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and situational awareness in a safe manner.
  • Observe, recall, and distinguish characteristics of persons, suspects, vehicles, locations, or property.
  • Observes and confronts suspicious persons, reports situations immediately, and takes action as appropriate while maintaining composure and control when encountering a hostile person or situation.
  • Effectively and coherently initiates or responds to communication using a two-way radio or telephone.
  • Utilize clear and appropriate communication skills when interacting with people.
  • Comprehend, evaluate, and correctly respond to information received.
  • Gather information and complete detailed daily logs and forms, or reduce results into written form (reports or statements) so as to clearly and accurately reflect the information obtained.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Turnaround Security Officers will work in and around an oil refinery sitting and/or standing for extended periods inside a traffic booth or outside in inclement weather while working routinely around vehicle traffic entering or exiting near a gate. Other duties may include driving within an industrial facility and exterior property where construction and maintenance activity and heavy equipment are present.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Applicant will be required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-hire physical, and functional capabilities exam (FCE).
