Turnaround Principal

At DPAC High School, we will strive for and achieve excellence. We will follow through on the promise we’ve made to our community to become an academic powerhouse on the historic westside of Las Vegas. We will achieve a 5-star rating according to the state of Nevada. To do so, our high school will engage in turnaround work. Our turnaround educators will show deep respect for our students’ capabilities and will embrace teaching at grade-level rigor while planning their lessons strategically to set students up for success. Our educators will show a deep commitment to supporting our young people, including through strong partnership with our families, regular advising, and consistent family communication to ensure strong attendance and academic performance. We will also have a laser focus on providing top-notch ACT Prep services, and will expand dual enrollment opportunities so that our HS students get a leg up and earn college credit before they graduate from HS.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead DPAC High School to become an academic powerhouse on the historic westside of Vegas. Shape the instructional and culture vision for the school by focusing relentlessly on grade level rigor in all courses, ACT prep beginning in 9th grade, Dual Enrollment opportunities, and targeted tutoring. 
  • Establish and promote a positive culture of high expectations and high support, continuous improvement, and a relentless focus on academic achievement for scholars and staff, ensuring all staff receive excellent development and students are prepared for the opportunity to attend a 4-year college or university. 
  • Drive the instructional programs of the school: provide targeted coaching and professional development for teachers, evaluate and set goals for teachers, ensure fidelity to aligned curriculum from Democracy Prep (StudySync for HS ELA and Illustrative Math for HS Math) and all other academic programs (Dual Enrollment, ACT prep, and tutoring) through weekly lesson plan feedback and revision protocols, and by modeling effective instructional strategies. 
  • Build and execute strong attendance systems that consistently that 90 % of students are present in school. 
  • Manage, evaluate, and implement clear and effective procedures for the operation and functioning of the school including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and discipline systems.
  • Continually refine and monitor all systems and routines aligned to core DP procedures for the school that ensure a smooth student and staff experience from the moment scholars arrive to the moment they leave.
  • Actively monitor student and staff growth through collection of formal and informal data; use data to inform short and long-term strategic plans of the school.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs that includes all aspects of DP core curriculum, ensuring sequential learning experiences for scholars consistent with the school’s instructional goals.
  • Plan and execute weekly staff professional development that improves teacher practice and scholar achievement.
