Delaware River Port Authority is Hiring a HVAC Technician - Union 8 - $39.54/hr. Near Camden, NJ

This position will be posted from May 6, 2024 to May 10, 2024 by 4:00pm.

Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and a background check. DRPA and PATCO are subject to federal law, under which marijuana continues to be illegal.

 Must be able to pass the HVAC Technician Test.

Position Purpose

Performs a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled and manual work required to accomplish construction and maintenance activities on all DRPA facilities’ equipment, roadways, electrical systems, grounds, structures etc. while maintaining and improving the HVAC & Plumbing areas of the bridge infrastructure.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Authority will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Analyzes refrigeration machinery, electronic controls, building automation control systems, chillers, dehumidification systems, heating systems and boilers and advises remedies for repairs throughout the facility.
  2. Maintains the current HVAC & Plumbing equipment and services including but not limited to underground and bridge drainage systems; inlets and manholes; utilities and meters; transfer pumps; water treatment; sprinkler systems; fuel storage tank and dispensing systems and standpipes.
  3. Installs new services such as air-conditioning, duct work, unit heaters, heating systems, air-handlers, etc.
  4. Prepares clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  5. Operates motorized equipment and vehicles in a safe manner following all laws pertaining to New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
  6. Assists in MPT (Maintenance and Protection of Traffic) management.
  7. Coordinates with the HVAC Foreman, the activities of outside contractors performing tasks at the facility.Performs inspections of these functions for Bridge & Engineering departments.
  8. Report unusual conditions and take corrective actions as assigned.
  9. Operate radio equipment under FCC guidelines for intra-facility use.
  10. Maintain & improve the refrigeration machinery, electronic controls, boilers, plumbing throughout the facility, high pressure water systems, sewer lines, drainage systems, gas lines, etc.
  11. Carry out preventive maintenance program, including; change filters, replace belts, etc.
  12. Participate in the operation of the energy management system.
  13. Service and repair electric motors and pumps.
  14. Plans details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develops a logical approach to correct the problem.
  15. Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices related to HVAC systems.
  16. Operate specialized pieces of equipment; Aerial lift vehicle, loaders, backhoe, snow removal equipment, platform truck, crane, etc.
  17. Climb the bridge structure, via ladders and hand railed walkways to access equipment for maintenance or repairs. Use of an aerial lift vehicle reaching heights in excess of 150 feet is required.
  18. Assist other departments during emergencies or accidents and snowstorms.
  19. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training, recognizing and reporting hazards and suspicious activity, and using all required personal protective equipment.
  20. Technicians shall perform all duties as assigned but shall not be limited to any certain specialty (ies).

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to all provisions of the DRPA/PATCO’S Substance Abuse Testing and Control Policy including random drug testing and periodic physical testing requirements and the federally mandated CDL Drug and Alcohol random testing requirements.

Education and/or Experience 

Required:

  • Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 5 years combined experience in both HVAC and Plumbing
  • CFC Type II Certification.
  • Knowledge of local & state codes, OSHA & EPA regulations.
  • Proficiency in relevant personal computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • This position requires a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with air brakes and tanker endorsement from the state of New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Delaware. Applicants who lack the appropriate CDL at the time of application, but who otherwise are deemed qualified for the position may be considered. If the selected candidate does not have the appropriate CDL at the time of selection, he or she must obtain said CDL within the orientation period. Failure to provide proof of the CDL, which is required to perform the essential duties of the job, for any reason within six (6) months from the candidate’s date of hire will result in the immediate termination of employment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit 5%. The employee is required to stand and walk 75% and lift, climb, bend 20%.The employee must have the physical agility, balance and coordination required to climb heights in excess of 400 feet.The employee must occasionally lift objects up to 100 pounds, hold objects up to 100 pounds, and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Have normal day and night time vision, corrected or uncorrected.Have normal hearing, corrected or uncorrected.Must be able to perform all position functions.Must be able to physically operate all job related equipment for the position functions.The employee must maintain a neat and clean appearance.Must be willing to work in all weather and environmental conditions and in variable controlled hazardous material exposures.
