Receives Work Direction from: Principal, President

Primary Function (Purpose of Position): A DeLaSalle High School 9th Grade Visual Art Teacher has a deep appreciation for the arts, strong commitment to fostering creativity, and the ability to inspire and guide high school students in their artistic journey. The art teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing an engaging art curriculum, providing hand-on instruction, and creating a supportive learning environment that encourages artistic expression.

Ethical Standards: Employees of DeLaSalle High School must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of DeLaSalle High School. Their personal behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, nor can it embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. Representative Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with state standards and encourages artistic exploration.
  • Create lesson plans that cover a range of art mediums, techniques, and art history, catering to different skill levels and interests.

2. Classroom Instruction:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and more.
  • Demonstrate techniques and processes, and assist students in developing their artistic skills.

3. Student Assessment:

  • Evaluate and assess student work, providing constructive feedback to support their artistic growth.
  • Conduct regular assessments to measure students’ progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.

4. Classroom Management:

  • Maintain a well-organized and visually stimulating art classroom.
  • Enforce classroom rules and expectations to create a respectful and productive learning atmosphere.

5. Cultural and Artistic Awareness:

  • Integrate diverse perspectives and cultural influences into the art curriculum.
  • Foster an appreciation for art history and contemporary artistic movements.

6. Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art across the curriculum and support interdisciplinary learning.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and upcoming projects.

7. Professional Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in art education, instructional methods, and technology.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the school’s academic community.

Other Responsibilities: Additional responsibilities identified as needed by employer and approved and/or assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • BA or Master’s degree in Art Education or related field.
  • Teaching certification in art education.
  • Proven experience teaching art at the high school level.
  • Strong portfolio of personal artwork and a comprehensive understanding of various art forms and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Passion for fostering creativity and a love for working with high school students.
  • Experience in organizing art exhibitions or showcases is a plus.

Expected Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students and staff.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works in such a manner to provide positive and timely communication with students and parents while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to collaborate with and support other staff as directed.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Able to work 40 hours a week or whatever is required – including occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.
