The MTSS Coordinator serves as a liaison between teachers, school leaders, and the instructional team to ensure all aspects of Tier 1 supports for all students, Tier 2 supports for students needing targeted interventions, and Tier 3 supports for students needing intensive interventions. Specific responsibilities can be organized into three categories: data and assessment, intervention pathways and communication. The position is school-based and reports to the Principal, with support from the Special Education Coordinators.

School-Wide Student Services Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction, planning, and program development to ensure our students learn in an assets-based environment, receive high-quality support services, and are able to reach their goals.
  • Develop systems, structures, and sustainable practices to deliver support services from school staff members and external agencies.

Support Services Coordination

  • Identify and select the students most in need of additional support services:
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, leaders, and families to learn their perspectives regarding which students are most in need of additional support services.
  • Use data (including attendance records, discipline reports, student grades, etc.) to help determine which students are most in need of additional support services.
  • Respond eagerly and willingly to the direction provided by the School Leader as it pertains to which students and families are most in need of additional support services
  • Provide or coordinate support services directly or through others to students and their families.

Student Behavior Intervention and Support

  • Lead the collaborative effort to create and implement plans that provide differentiated behavior support for selected students throughout the school day:
  • Partner with teachers, leaders, and families to create individualized plans to support students throughout their school day, which will include planning to track key behaviors, reward progress, and intervene when adequate progress is not happening.
  • Support teachers and leaders as they work to follow established plans, provide feedback when the established plan has not been followed.
  • Effectively communicate plans to students, families, teachers, and leaders to ensure continuity, clarity, and efficacy of established plans.
  • Focus support services on clear outcomes that will contribute to the school-wide effort to ensure all students learn, grow, and achieve transformative life outcomes:
  • Establish clear, measurable, and meaningful goals for each student and family receiving support.
  • Track progress towards these goals and regularly report on this progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Continually adjust both goals and services to ensure that each student is on a path towards a college education and a life of value, joy, and integrity
  • Formalize support as part of a Response to Intervention program as needed Provide in-the-moment behavior support to teachers and staff as needed.

Response to Intervention

  • Establish and execute processes for effective Response to Intervention
  • Plan and conduct RTI meetings regularly with teacher teams
  • Facilitate documentation of RTI processes, communication, and data collection

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a T-4 Georgia Educator Certificate required.
  • Successful experience working with students who require intervention, support, or special education services is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience required.
