Purpose of Classification :
The purpose of this classification is to serve as the shift supervisor for water and wastewater facilities in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements for the operation of water treatment, distribution, storage facilities and / or wastewater collection, lift stations or treatment facilities.
This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential Functions :
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and counsels staff, completes performance appraisals, as well as career development plans.
Performs daily rounds and assists foreman to ensure maintenance staff responds to mechanical problems.
Ensures plant operations comply with all EPD and EPA regulations and assists with the monitoring of the contractor for the Land Application Site;
oversees the update of data in departmental software; and checks all data to ensure compliance.
Trains, instructs, and directs personnel in safe and proper equipment operations, maintenance, and repair of wastewater equipment;
assesses the knowledge of the foreman and operators to determine their knowledge of the equipment; and instructs on proper operation of equipment when rotating and doing preventative maintenance.
Maintains records and logs correspondences; corresponds with the maintenance, operations, fleet, building maintenance, chemical vendors, household supply vendors, purchasing, and contracting to ensure all equipment, vehicles, lawn equipment, and buildings are in good working order;
purchases operational chemicals, household cleaning supplies and toiletries; and receives all deliveries to the plant in the Oracle program.
Confers with engineers and others regarding the efficiency of the plant and equipment and recommends changes in plant design and operations for production and optimum wastewater quality;
and confers with the Plant Engineer and Pole Bridge Superintendent and other members of management to discuss operational issues and projects at both wastewater pants.
Manages crew workers and works to maintain efficiency of the plant; meets weekly to determine the current needs of the plant;
checks the supplies for various job assignments, requisitions supplies; and manages the maintenance and repair of all plant vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED required; six years experience as a plant operator which included two years of experience as a Class I plant operator in a water or wastewater treatment facility;
or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required : Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Class I Water or Wastewater Operator License.
