Overview:

Naval Health Clinic Oak Harbor offers an outstanding fleet and patient-centered medical homeport for delivery of primary care with external resource sharing agreements with local hospitals for emergency, inpatient, and surgical services. We currently serve a beneficiary population of over 17,000 active-duty personnel, family members, retirees and their families.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of duties involved with auditing, analyzing, coding, and reviewing medical data and medical records.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff and other health care providers for the coding and timely completion of medical records.
  • Validate diagnoses codes, procedures codes, narrative description of diagnoses and procedures, and transfer information is entered into the automated system.
  • Audit medical records to determine that appropriate codes describing injuries, operations, and non-surgical procedures are entered into medical records based on documentation contained therein.
  • Provide feedback to the medical record technicians to improve coding for maximum workload capture.
  • Coordinate training and continuing education of medical staff and coders on Diagnosis Related Groups processes
  • Analyze effectiveness of the outpatient coding program.
  • Apply regulatory guidance governing medical record documentation and coding.
  • Review and analyze information reported into data systems and provide recommendations for more efficient use of resources to medical center management.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews, evaluate documents in the record and identify unrecorded diagnoses and inadequate coding.
  • Determine quality control measures needed to implement corrective actions.
  • Implement/monitor the internal quality assurance program.
  • Conduct special review to examine specific problems.
  • Store, and retrieve medical records information conforming with Federal, State, and local statutes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Who May Apply: US Citizens
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience which includes advising administrative, medical, and/or other professional staff members on all phases of inpatient or outpatient medical records; solving problems involving different aspects of medical records relating to coding, utilization management, documentation, risk management, and/or performance improvement; and preparing statistical reports.
