Default Company is Hiring a Director, Merchandising Near Forest, IL
- Lead and train a team of 3 to 5 Merchants in the development of assortment strategy, organization and naming strategy, and product information strategy for all assigned product categories. Ensure those strategies align with Grainger overall company strategy.
- Research and remain current on the marketplace trends (products, customers, suppliers, and competitors) to ensure our merchants are driving our assortment and customer experience to be the best in class.
- Partner with Publishing and Product Information to develop structure and processes to ensure we create the best customer experience in the industry with the most complete and accurate product information.
- Partner with Content Strategy to develop merchandising standards and category presentation documents.
- Partner with Supplier Management to ensure the highest quality product assortment at the best cost.
- Partner with Marketing to ensure our assortment pricing remains competitive and our product specific marketing programs drive profitable growth.
- Partner with UX and ES to develop new online tools for product presentation
- Manage the activities and provide direction to the merchandising staff by setting clear goals, carefully reviewing work, and communicating with valuable feedback and updates
- BS/BA degree in engineering, technology, marketing, or business.
- 10 years' experience in industrial product management, merchandising, marketing, new product development, or technical sales
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills
- Demonstrated successful project management skills
- Excellent communication skills—written, interpersonal and small group presentation. Can translate data into clear recommendations.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and MRO customers
- Continuous improvement and process orientation
- Align and partner across the business to improve results financially and strategically
- Experience developing employees at every level to their full potential including developing successors to their current position
- Ability to produce and present MRO industry statistical and financial analysis
- Able to establish effective relationships with all levels of direct staff and with peers and management
- Comfortable building and delivering presentations to management, staff and field audiences
