What you'll be doing

The Associate Director Portfolio, North America is the commercial cross functional lead and voice of the North America market and will be responsible for building a pipeline that delivers LRP of $1 billion for this business. This role will lead new pipeline ideation and areas of growth for the North America Pharmaceutical business. The role will act as the North America commercial Lead on Global teams for the launch preparation of several mid to long term assets and act as Lead on North America strategic projects. The scope of responsibilities for this position will be mostly strategic in nature and will be fundamental to support the future growth of pharmaceuticals business in North America.

  • Be responsible for the LRP process for North America. Identify gaps and potential opportunities to deliver LRP of $1 billion for North America. Develop strategies to bridge gap and provide direction for long-term growth of the business.
  • Find opportunities and craft the portfolio strategy for North America business.
  • Identify high value strategic product opportunities, complete lifecycle – until launch.
  • Prepare business cases, high level launch strategies and investment recommendation to senior Leadership on Global BD and/or pipeline opportunities.
  • Act as the US Commercial Lead, until the Launch Management Team is formed, on North America launch projects for Mid to Long term portfolio assets.
  • Build go-to-market strategies for expansion into new channels such as specialty pharmacies, ASCs and other alternate sites of care.
  • Develop a pool of external KOLs and internal key customers to validate assumptions and interest for new pipeline opportunities.
  • Research, integrate, and translate market research insights into opportunities and strategies that shape decisions and drive organizational action for the North America business, its portfolio of products, and pipeline development products.
  • Work cross functionally with R&D, IP, Market Access, Marketing, Insights and Analytics and other teams, to conceptualize the ideal launch plan and cost for future launches.
  • Lead strategic projects that have significant impact on the direction and performance of North America business.
  • Provide medium to long-term insights to the business, identifying the potential gaps in order to offer recommendations for future product development aimed at improving the long term future profitability of the business.
  • Able to stay on top of the latest industry trends and dynamics and bring external insight towards pipeline strategy.
  • Identify new areas / product categories and connect the dots between Baxter capabilities or external partnerships to ensure entry into these new growth areas.
  • Support assessment of BD and M&A opportunities for North America

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA preferred with 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience spanning Portfolio Management, Marketing, Business Development, Strategic Business Planning
  • Understanding of US and Canada pharmaceutical industry, generic pharma and/or specialty pharma knowledge preferred
  • Good understanding of pharmaceutical products, diseases and therapy areas, regulatory and IP landscape
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex insights, as well as to connect commercial, financial, and clinical perspectives to develop strategies and business case rational
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written); presentation skills

What you'll be doing

The Associate Director of Operations Strategy & Transformation will be the primary owner of organizational excellence and transformation for the Product Management & Growth team – along with the broader DP&I organization.

There will be three key points of focus for achieving success in this role:

Driving Collaboration: Deliver standard processes and support a successful culture for collaboration across virtual and in-person media. Enable effective communication and knowledge sharing for optimal team results. Streamlining Operations: Iterate toward the most efficient processes and playbooks – driving linear flow where/when applicable. Support the team in adoption of these practices. Team Transformation : Add new tools to the team’s repertoire, help upskill the team with new tools, and position team for success.

This role will encompass Strategy and Transformation activities for Operations in Digital Platforms & Innovation (DP&I).

  • Define clear goals and objectives for the Product Management & Growth (PM&G) team – potentially to expand to broader DP&I organization.
  • Identify key obstacles to collaboration in virtual and in-person environments – and how to best overcome them.
  • Build a culture toward common direction, shared sense of purpose, and continuous improvement. Set the tone and lead by example (e.g., high-touch, consistent messaging)
  • Create and promote effective channels of communication to facilitate information sharing, idea exchange, project management, and timely feedback.
  • Explore and implement collaborative tools/technology
  • Assess the team and its processes to identify struggles where operations can be improved. This includes potential bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or anachronisms.
  • Create a central repository with relevant information, including roadmaps, personas, competitor analyses, and market data. This should be easily navigable and accessible to the correct partners.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for common tasks and processes, including play-by-lays to ensure consistency and save time.
  • Apply project management tools/processes and help drive fluency within the PM&G team. Move toward flawless tracking of tasks, deadlines, and supervising progress.
  • Support and improve the Operating Mechanism and Communications within/across teams in DP&I and Baxter.
  • Create a skills matrix with skills, tools, and competencies in current and ideal future state. Define proficiency levels and ratings for each skill to resolve gaps/training needs.
  • Explore and invest in tools and resources to support team (e.g., product mgmt, async communications).
  • Ensure quality and completion of the vision, strategy, and roadmap for products within the connected care portfolio.
  • Hold teams accountable to operation mechanisms and communications plans (e.g., PM&G, engineering, sourcing, service, compliance, regulatory and production)
  • Help develop important metrics to supervise product success pre-market, intra-market, and end-of-life
  • Work cross-functionally with business units, region/country teams, and functions to brainstorm, develop, launch new processes and improvements.
  • Brief executive team on statuses and risks to deadlines/roadmaps/timelines.
  • Help set and implement the strategic direction for Connected Care.
  • Ability to work and influence across business units and functions. Validated track-record of leading and influencing in a matrixed environment
  • Must have excellent soft skills including communication, people skills, decisiveness, accountability, ownership, being a collaborator, and self-motivated.
  • Validated project management experience with success driving aligned, global initiatives to meet / exceed targets
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Executive level presentation skills.
  • Must be available to travel to customer sites and team meetings frequently.
  • Experienced with analysis of financial metrics, establishing financial models and business cases as well as customer facing strategy & execution.
  • Takes a collaborative approach by openly discussing issues in a way that brings out the best thinking, attitude, and performance in others. Considers the effect of decisions on other parts of the company.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including international.

What you'll bring

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance or science/technology. MBA and/or graduate degree is a plus.
  • 7 years as a top performer in healthcare corporate and/or hospital environment and 5 years of cross-functional leadership experience, with significant sophisticated solutions selling experience.
  • Must have expert level knowledge of digital platforms and how they facilitate communication with various clinical systems and devices. Technical understanding of IT environments and robust knowledge of clinical processes and workflows is a plus
  • Previous experience developing and maintaining C-level relationships with customers and strategic partners.
  • Proven career progression in previous roles.
  • Prior consulting and/or investment banking experience is a plus.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $144,000 to $198,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or long-term incentive.
