Dee Zee, Inc. is Hiring a Quality Lab Technician - 2nd shift Near Pleasant Hill, IA

POSITION SUMMARY – Primary duties include collecting and preparing samples, conducting required test(s) per work instructions, documenting test results, and communicating findings to team. Secondary duties include verifying coating system(s) are in conformance by testing both system parameters and defined part characteristics. Additional production support tasks include, but not limited to, inspection of in-process materials or finished goods, identifying quality concerns, and assisting with product conformance decisions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT — Must be willing and able to work in an environment exposed to elements that can include but are not limited to coolant, dust, mist, elevated noise, and uncontrolled temperatures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collect weld samples from production and prepare for testing using necessary equipment
  • Conduct required test(s) per work instructions and test methods on prepared samples using lab equipment and record collected data
  • Analyze and document the test results, effectively communicating findings to team
  • Maintain and ensure laboratory is organized and clean, equipment is kept in good working condition
  • Verify coating system(s) for conformance to specifications, including testing of system parameters and appearance and testing of parts for conformance
  • Assist coating system(s) personnel to ensure parts are to the Bill of Materials and specifications
  • Complete documentation needed to support testing procedures including data capture forms, equipment logbooks, spreadsheets, or inventory forms
  • Review data from contract laboratories to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Visually and physically examine surface of products to detect defects
  • Verify conformance of products to dimensional specifications
  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, WIP, or finished goods
  • Evaluate analytical methods and procedures to determine how they might be improved
  • Assist production personnel in the performance of adhering to the bill of material and inspection criteria and making decisions of those inspection standards
  • Identify quality problems and recommend solutions
  • Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions
  • Monitor testing procedures to ensure that all tests are performed according to established item specifications, standard test methods, or protocols
  • Participate in internal assessments and audits as required
  • Evaluate new technologies and methods to make recommendations regarding their use
  • Assist other departments in their normal functions if called upon or need is known
  • Serve as a technical liaison between quality control and other departments, vendors, or contractors
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ability to stop the production line and/ or prevent shipment of products due to nonconformance or potential nonconformance products to our customers
  • Maintain and support the environmental policy with deployment, governance of the policy and processes, evaluation and taking action for process improvement
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Possess basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, blueprints, and control plan
  • Possess organizational skills and a methodical approach to work

  • Ability to run equipment and machinery used to prepare samples and perform testing
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet project deadlines
  • Ability to pay attention to the details of a project or task
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Graduate, GED, or HSDE preferred
Experience: One-year related experience preferred
Computer Skills: Must demonstrate computer literacy; Proficient using Microsoft Office
