POSITION SUMMARY – Design and develop robust packaging solutions throughout the entire supply chain including supplied, internal, and external for Dee Zee and its’ customers. Packaging development to also include the identification of labels, layouts, and content to ensure compliance to requirements. “internal packaging” is a general term that includes everything required to transfer all WIP within Dee Zee buildings, to other Dee Zee buildings, between other subcontractors and suppliers – effectively any additional material required for safety, protection or positioning of the material. “customer packaging” includes development of all packaging for the FG products and working with customer packaging engineers or other customer representatives to meet expectations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT— Must be willing and able to work in an environment exposed to elements that can include but are not limited to coolant, dust, mist, elevated noise, and uncontrolled temperatures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Implement robust packaging and labeling solutions meeting expectations 

• Develop packaging methods utilizing 3D modeling and generating 2D prints

• Document Bill of Materials capturing direct and indirect contents

• Plan and execute validation testing including Design of Experiments (DOE) and test reports

• Work with suppliers’ and customers’ engineers on development for expendable packaging and returnable containerization

• Create and facilitate prototyping or samples during development as needed 

• Support negotiations on part cost, design, tooling, testing, etc.

• Calculate quantity, costs and impact on business unit within development and production processes 

• Develop and capture best practices for packaging and labeling applications

• Work closely with other functions such as Program Management, R&D Engineers, MP&L, Procurement, etc. and act as facilitator to meeting requirements

• Make final approval of packaging specifications, prints and other data related to packaging and labeling

• Bring cost savings to the overall packaging spend through improved designs, new sources, existing source improvements, logistics, etc.

• Understand, manage, and ensure compliance to customer specific requirements

• Customer interface for customer designed packaging and labeling

• Perform packaging and labeling projects and activities towards optimization from aspects, such as cost, flexibility, application, and communizing

• Managing master list and suite book of packaging and labeling

• Pursue cost savings opportunities relative to density, reducing defects, volume and pricing, etc.

• Input data of packaging and shipping specs to customer portals

• Develop labeling to meet expectations for compliance to internal and customer specific requirements 

• Research industry and offering to ensure innovative and new technologies

• Incorporate safety and ergonomics into development to improve production environment

• Specify material requirements for packaging 

• Conduct other duties and special projects as assigned to support business needs

• Ability to stop the production line and/or prevent shipment of products due to nonconformance or potential nonconformance products to our customers 

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

• Possess a broad understanding of materials involved with protection, packaging, and labeling of products or components

• Customer/client focused

• Excellent communication skills internally and externally on aspects of product development and realization APQP teams, etc.

• Leadership and effective at leading cross functional teams

• Understanding of supplier processes, manufacturing, assembly, fabrication, and finishing operations

• Technical knowledge of packaging requirements including safety, protection, recyclability, space, and cost

• Negotiation skills

• Ability to follow quality system standards

• Establish, maintain, and foster cooperative working relations with others in a team environment

• Competent engineering skills

• Problem solving and critical thinking skills

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field required

Experience: Mechanical related internship and Two to Four years industry experience preferred 

Computer Skills: Must demonstrate computer literacy, Proficient using Microsoft Office, Proficient using Solid works and AutoCAD design suites or similar program

Certificates & Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license

Other Requirements: Must be eligible to obtain a Passport
