Job Summary: STEP Program Behavioral Specialist/Teacher Assistant
Job Description
The Dearborn Academy STEP Program is a short-term alternative educational program affiliated with Dearborn Academy. STEP is designed to provide stabilization and intensive academic, behavioral, and therapeutic assessment and intervention to elementary, middle, and high school students who have been excluded from their educational placement. The goal of STEP is to help students address the issues that resulted in their referral and to prepare them for a transition to an appropriate educational setting. STEP takes a strengths-based approach and emphasizes respect, community, personal responsibility, and decision-making. The program is small and highly structured with an average staff-to-student ratio of 1:2. Our approach is relationally based and incorporates a student’s need for positive connections with others. We are seeking an energetic, active, creative professional who will help provide structure, assist in academic classes, and facilitate group and community-based activities with our students. We are not a behavioral program and do not physically mange students. Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) and experience with ED/BD/LD students required. At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
BA degree preferred
