Job Description

As an employee of DCS, you will be asked to contribute your skills and expertise to help make the environment beautiful all while upholding our company’s values, principles, and family name! As a Fountain Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for installing, building, servicing/troubleshooting, maintaining, and cleaning a wide range of lake fountains and aeration systems. You will also maintain a schedule of shop manufacturing duties for the fountains. We are currently seeking technicians that will use electrical, plumbing, concrete, shop and irrigation skills to service troubleshoot, and repair a variety of fountain types, as well as assist in the assembly and installation of new units. The position will require strong electro-mechanical skills, customer service skills, regular interaction with customers and prospects, as well as being a contributing member of a great team work environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

OPERATIONS:

  • Has responsibility for maintaining clean and attractive campus fountains. Works with Zone Technicians to ensure that the fountains are maintained according to standards of cleanliness.
  • Vacuums, sweeps, and removes leaves and debris from fountains. Performs strainer cleaning, filter cleaning, filter cleaning, scale removal and structure cleaning.
  • Inspects, monitors, and performs preventive maintenance on fountain equipment. Ensures that all fountains equipment such as filters, sump pumps, chemical feeders and monitors, water level controls, lighting, fountain effect and de-ionizer are working properly.
  • Performs water chemistry testing and analysis. Ensures compliance with laws pertaining to safe chemical utilization and the proper method and destinations of drained fountain water and filter backwashes.
  • Trains others in the proper maintenance of fountains in areas such as water chemistry testing and maintenance, cleaning techniques, repairs, and troubleshooting. Identifies additional training or defines needs for new or continuing training that would benefit staff. Monitors the fountains that the Zone Technicians assist with to ensure the fountains are properly maintained.
  • Oversee special fountain maintenance projects such as major equipment installation or replacement, contracted repairs, painting, restoration, de-scaling, and rust removal. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Supports event preparation. Schedules operating times, drains, re-fills and protects fountains for events such as commencement, Festival of Books, home football games, filming, fountain runs, etc. oversee special fountain maintenance projects such as major equipment installation or replacement, contracted repairs, painting, restoration, de-scaling, and rust removal. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Supports event preparation. Schedules operating times, drains, re-fills and protects fountains for events such as commencement, Festival of Books, home football games, filming, fountain runs, etc.
  • Prepare reports and/or maintain accurate records of fountain maintenance performed including chemical usage.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of fountain brands, as well as assist in the assembly and installation of new units.
  • Additional duties may include cleaning or repairing of the fountain and aerators.
  • Make sure all work is conducted in compliance with strict safety guidelines and label requirements.
  • Assist with all daily routing, scheduling, and tank mixing.
  • Have all the necessary tools and equipment on board, including repair kits for on-the-road repairs.
  • Have all proper paperwork, MSDS sheets, labels, etc.
  • Have all proper safety items, such as vests, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
  • Make sure all equipment is in working order.
  • Truck cleanliness and care.
  • Make sure all work is conducted in compliance with strict safety guidelines.
  • Complete understanding of chemicals used, what they control, and all safety requirements.

TECHNICAL:

  • Understanding of chemicals used, what they control, and all safety requirements.
  • Basic understanding of application methods and equipment (i.e., boats, four-wheel drive trucks).
  • Ability to communicate professionally with Homeowners, Apartments, and other customers.
  • Understanding of outdoor working conditions.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized/technical training is preferred.

Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of previous fountain maintenance technician experience.
  • Must have pool or fountain service industry experience.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must know how to swim and not be afraid of the water.
  • Must have at a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of clean driving.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check and completed a dot drug screen.
