DDI Brand is Hiring a Behavior Specialist 1 - Children's Day Program Near Huntington, NY

Behavior Specialists in the Children's Day Program are creative, energetic, career oriented teaching professionals who are motivated to educate individuals with developmental disabilities in an ungraded setting. Behavior Specialists are offered on-going trainings and support provided by board certified analysts and other qualified professionals to enhance and maximize career growth. Our school programs operate on a 12 month calendar and include 9 weeks of scheduled vacation during the year. This is a great opportunity to get valuable experience and knowledge working in a classroom and using ABA.

Salary Range: $59,150-$70,980 / year

Responsibilities 

  • Supervise classroom teams in areas concerning student program - i.e., setting up the classroom, schedules, implementing IEPs, all required paperwork and data collection, preparing Alternate Assessments and Annual Review paperwork, and accessing and coordinating resources.
  • Oversee the development of student Behavior Support Plans, collecting and using ABC data, using positive teaching techniques, developing effective reinforcement for students, setting up toileting schedules, etc.
  • Instruct staff in classrooms by demonstration, in leading inservices, during conference day presentations, special meetings, bus staff training, etc.
  • Instruct and enforce all agency and division policies and procedures in their interface with staff, parents, central administration, school district and community members.
  • Coordinate and participate as needed in meetings related to students in their classes (i.e., quarterly review meetings, CSE/annual review meetings, parent meetings, staffing or team meetings, CRP Clinicals, transportation issues, collaboration with CRP, etc.).
  • Participate in responsibilities as needed for the building or program as a whole (i.e., intake screenings, tours, evacuation drills, bus duty, special events, emergencies, field trips, transportation issues, committees, assists other Behavior Specialists or their staff if needed, etc.).
  • Contribute positively and actively to the positive climate in the building, to the motivation and morale of the individuals they supervise, and to developing and empowering staff.
  • Provide information and or attend psychiatric appointments. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Must possess an MA or MS degree and/or NYS certification in Psychology or completed BCBA coursework.
  • Must demonstrate skill with Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Must have 2 years’ experience with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • SCIP-R Certification is required (For a new hire, must have SCIP-R certification within 2 months of hire). 

Essential Physical Demands

  • Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e., move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift/move 20 lbs (mats).
  • Must be able to run after students up to 500 feet.
  • Must be able to run to a classroom in need up to 500 feet.
  • Must be able to kneel, twist and bend.
  • Must be able to respond to fire alarms.
