Job Title : Safety & Monitoring Specialist (SSS3)

Location : Vancouver, WA Flexible / Hybrid This is a hybrid position, serving Clark and Cowlitz counties, with some travel to other counties within Region 6 (Download PDF reader), as needed.

Salary : $ 5,214 - $ 7,016 Monthly

The Licensing Division, within DCYF, is currently seeking a dynamic and motivated professional Safety & Monitoring Specialist (Social Service Specialist 3) to join our Region 6 Safety & Monitoring team to provide foster care licensure support throughout the community.

This role will also maintain a caseload of licensed providers and be the primary licensing contact for licensed families.

The Opportunity :

As a Safety & Monitoring Specialist, you will ensure that foster families receive the support they need to provide a nurturing and safe environment for children.

You will be responsible for managing licensed foster homes, assisting in renewals, amendments, and investigations. Furthermore, you will evaluate family strengths, offer consultation, and address licensing concerns with empathy and understanding.

Your commitment to promoting the well-being of children and their families will continue to make a difference in the surrounding community.

Some of what you'll do :

  • Review family history of intakes and licensing complaints.
  • Complete comprehensive interviews with providers, family members, and others living in the home.
  • Perform physical inspections of all areas of homes, outbuildings, and surrounding premises.
  • Assess for compliance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
  • Provide consultation to applicants by referring services and training while providing support throughout the renewal licensing process.
  • Complete clear and accurate written assessment of evaluations.
  • Provide technical assistance and interpretation of policy and statute governing licensing functions and assist foster parents with foster care license renewals.
  • Utilize FamLink to document and maintain provider records.

Required Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law / justice, or an allied field.
  • Three (3) years of paid social service experience performing functions EQUIVALENT TO a Social Service Specialist 2.
  • A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law / justice, or an allied field.
  • Two (2) years of paid social service experience EQUIVALENT TO a Social Service Specialist 2.
  • A two-year Master’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law / justice, or an allied field.
  • One (1) year of paid social service experience EQUIVALENT TO a Social Service Specialist 2.
  • A practicum.
  • One (1) year of experience AS A Social Service Specialist 2.

Degree must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org.

Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application for degrees obtained outside the U.S. Incomplete applications may be screened out of the recruitment process. *

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following :

  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse populations.
  • Previous demonstrated working understanding of agency policies, WAC, and RCW related to licensed facilities.
  • Previous demonstrated use and skill with MS Office and FamLink database.
