Required Qualifications:This position requires a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or a closely related field. In addition to education, one (1) year of related experience is required.

Key ResponsibilitiesThis is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities.

  • Recruits and promotes program through campus-wide and community presentations and creation and dissemination of announcements, brochures, and other correspondence. Counsels, advises, and advocates for a caseload of 80 - 100 program participants, providing intrusive academic advising, academic coaching, transfer mapping and planning, financial aid support, financial literacy instruction, and provide mental health support. Develops short-term and long-term educational and career objectives/goals, monitor students’ progress, and will implement the overall process to ensure persistence, graduation, and transition to a four-year institution. Makes referrals with college-wide community to meet students’ academic needs. Maintains student files and updates program record system to document services and student progress on weekly and annual basis.
  • Manages and oversees first-year Summer Bridge program for new students; this requires the development of marketing materials, ongoing recruitment efforts, scheduling and overseeing of workshops, collecting of enrollment and financial paperwork for each student and creating an academic plan for each student.
  • Creates programming for monthly meetings for 60-65 participants a month; this requires the coordination of speakers and development of curriculum that aligns with Department of Education required services: academic advising, transfer counseling, financial aid, financial literacy, academic skills, and non-cognitive factors for success. Plans and presents pedagogically proven and engaging instruction to a diverse population of students. Coordinates use of facilities and secures materials, equipment, and supplies as needed to facilitate sessions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking skills and ability to solve problems.
  • The ability to follow complex directions and handle multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of computers, peripherals, system databases, and software programs such as Microsoft Suite (ex: word), Student Access, and Peoplesoft. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and be flexible to meet the demands of the College.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-driven environment while maintaining high level of understanding and professionalism.
