Daytona Beach is Hiring a Prisoner Transport Officer (Police or Correctional Officer) Near Daytona Beach, FL

Purpose
The purpose of this full-time classification, under general supervision of a Sworn Police Supervisor, or other designated departmental official, is to perform functions associated with the supervision, care, custody, and control, of prisoners. Duties include an element of personal danger and exposure, adverse weather conditions and transporting prisoners. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with Florida State Statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Incumbents must be Florida certified Correctional Officers or Law Enforcement Officers.
Drug Screening
NOTE: This position is safety sensitive and requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City, applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position. Minimum Qualifications
Experience, Education & Training -
HOW YOU QUALIFY: Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen between 19 and 65 (applicant must be 19 before State Certification to work as a Police Officer will be granted). Must have a High School Diploma, GED or acceptable equivalency diploma (USAFI not accepted). Corrected visual acuity at least 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. MUST HAVE A VALID FLORIDA DRIVER"S LICENSE and an acceptable driving record, if employed.
Candidates must possess a current, valid Florida Law Enforcement or Florida Correctional Officer Certificate of Completion and passing grade results OR Certificate of Compliance of the Minimum Standards as set forth by the Florida Police Standards Council to be employed. Certificates of Completion may be obtained through most Florida Community Colleges.
Military: No service time required; however, if a veteran, you cannot have a dishonorable discharge, from any armed force of the U.S.
Criminal History: Candidates must not have any felony convictions or misdemeanor conviction involving perjury, false statement, domestic violence or crimes involving moral turpitude.
The application must be completed in order to be reviewed for potential hire. Documents necessary to submit with the application include:
~ High School Diploma. (If your diploma is from out of state, you will need a certified copy of your transcripts),
~ Birth Certificate/proof of U.S. citizenship,
~ Military Discharge (DD-214) if applicable,
~ Current Police or Correctional Officer Certification of Completion and passing grade results or Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Officer Certification Examination
~ Copy of valid Florida Driver"s License and
~ Social Security card.
There are four parts to the examination process:
~ Oral Board Interview: Candidates are interviewed as openings occur.
~ Medical Examination: Candidates are given a thorough physical examination and drug screening upon acceptance, which must be passed to assure employment.
~ Polygraph and Psychological test.
~ Background and fingerprint check.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position.
Maintain supervision, care, custody and control of prisoners from an arresting officer and transport them safely to the Daytona Beach Police Department Holding Cell, Volusia County Branch Jail, Halifax Hospital and any other authorized designated location.
Complete prisoner searches to prevent the introduction of weapons and/or contraband items into the transport vehicles and facilities and secures the prisoner"s personal property.
Monitors activities and behaviors of prisoners during transport and during custody.
Maintain proper security of prisoners being transported; prepares, maintains, reviews, and processes various reports to include documentation such as booking documents, transport logs, and transport van logs, etc., and ensures that all transportation paperwork is completed accurately and signed by the appropriate authority. Institutes proper restraints as appropriate for prisoner"s custody; check transportation vehicles daily.
Remove prisoners from holding cells or transport vans in accordance with established policy & directives and maintain all required logs/records of the Prisoner Transfer Facility.
Conducts inventory checks on Department equipment.
Conducts and documents inventory checks on prisoner property.
Testifies in civil and criminal court proceedings and gives depositions.

Includes exercising description in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive and advisory data and information, such as law enforcement materials, standard operation procedures, state statutes, and warning/cautionary procedures.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculate decimals and percentages.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert extremely heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials in excess of 100 pounds.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate odors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
Environmental Factors: Tasks risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic agents, violence, disease, and/or pathogenic substances.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The work performance of non-supervisory personnel of the City of Daytona Beach is routinely evaluated according to the performance criteria outlined herein:
Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of a Prisoner Transport Officer. Has knowledge of principles and practices of lawful protection of lives and property through crime/accident prevention activities, criminal investigation activities, and arrest and seizure activities. Has through knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the Department, and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has thorough knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the Department as such pertain to work responsibilities.
Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which the position interacts.
Quality of Work: Maintains high standard of accuracy in performing duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains quality communication and interaction with intra- and interdepartmental personnel and any external entities with which position interacts.
Quantity of Work: Performs described essential functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in a manner to produce a quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations.
Dependability: Assumes responsibility for completion of assigned functions. Completes assigned work within established deadlines in accordance with directives, policies, standards, and prescribed procedures. Maintains accountability for assigned responsibilities in the technical, human, and conceptual areas.
Attendance: Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness. Provides sufficient notice to upper management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.
