West Carrollton School Nurse
Job Summary:
Administers a comprehensive health service program designed to help students achieve maximum benefit from the district's education programs and services.
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor degree in nursing
Minimum Experience:
  • Successful clinical experience in nursing
Preferred Education/Experience:
  • 1-3 years performing nursing duties in a school setting
Required Licensure: Licensed by the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse and a Pupil Services license from the Ohio Department of Education.
Essential Functions (includes % of time spent on the job):
  • Prepares and runs school clinic by providing assistance to sick and injured students, administering first aid and dispensing of prescribed medications.
  • Develops and follows procedures for administering and storing medications and training staff in the administration of medications as needed.
  • Tracks immunization status of all students and completes all required paperwork and reporting related to immunizations status of students.
  • Ensures that signed permission forms are on file as needed for the release of health information.
  • Makes exclusion or readmission recommendations regarding students with communicable diseases or other health concerns.
  • Performs all required minimum student health screening activities, assists with kindergarten-screening programs and evaluates suspected medical, visual, or hearing problems.
  • Trains staff in standard practices related to student assistance (e.g., first aid, administering mediation, tube feeding, suctioning, catheterization, etc.…).
  • Maintains accurate clinical and appropriate school records and submits reports to the district and at the state and federal level as required.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the district's blood-born pathogen compliance officer.
  • Assist district in identifying safety and health hazards, investigating and documenting injuries and recommends revisions to board policy in related areas.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Physical
Requirements:
  • Lifting up to 45 pounds using a 1 person lift. Lifts are normally conducted once per day but can range as high as five times per day.
  • Carry while walking, twisting or turning up to 45 pounds using a 1-person lift. Activity is normally conducted once per day but can range as high as five times per day.
  • Bending at the hips, squatting and reaching on a frequent basis over a seven-hour period.
  • Stand, sit and walk on a frequent basis over a seven-hour period.
  • Fine motor skills required for use in pincher grasp and typing.
Working
Conditions:
  • Work is generally indoors in an office and school setting.
  • Work contains a greater risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.

The supervisor shall assess/rate the individual’s job performance against the responsibilities and essential elements that are applicable and included in this job description.
