This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S.! Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is looking for a Pro Bono Specialist to join our team in either Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, Washington D.C., New York, or San Francisco office.

The Pro Bono Specialist will report to the Pro Bono Client Engagement Manager and will support the Pro Bono & Social Impact Department.

On a typical day you will:

  • Establish relationships with qualified legal service organizations across all markets of the firm and become a primary point of contact for all pro bono opportunities and referrals. Maintain a primary contact list of legal service organizations and community partners
  • Procure pro bono and social impact opportunities for our attorneys, practice groups, and billable clients
  • Identify attorneys to work on cases referred by legal services organizations and matters from departing attorneys
  • Work with the Pro Bono Committee to promote pro bono opportunities and events in their offices and practice groups
  • Support the Gateway to Good Platform by researching, procuring, and uploading opportunities for the platform while tracking all activity on the site
  • Coordinate pro bono “Lunch and Learns” and assist with other continuing legal education and social impact programming across all offices
  • Track attorney interest areas and assist with finding opportunities and projects that align with their skill sets and interests
  • Respond to attorney and staff inquiries regarding pro bono matters: matter opening process, engagement letters, scope questions
  • Support the Gateway to Good Platform by researching, procuring, and uploading opportunities for the platform while tracking all activity on the site
  • Maintain the department’s NetDocuments site to include all relevant internal program information, including (but not limited to) historical responses to surveys and awards, monthly data reports, lunch and learn recordings, internal and external educational programming
  • Maintain pro bono and social impact pages on the firm’s intranet (Portal)
  • Maintain all internal email listservs and post information about opportunities, including pro bono and social impact opportunities and educational programming
  • Track pro bono hours progress; prepare reports in an innovative, easily understood format so that dense information can be quickly understood by the Pro Bono Committee, Partners-In-Charge, Practice Group Chairs, Practice Managers, and others; compile and prepare updates for office and practice group presentations and Executive Committee meetings
  • Work with firm’s marketing department to draft language announcing pro bono updates and wins on social media; regularly provide updates for the department’s LinkedIn showcase page
  • Maintain list of pro bono and social impact awards nationwide, notify team of opportunities and prepare and submit nominations for firm initiatives
  • Collect nominations and facilitate the judging process for the firm’s Heart of Justice Awards
  • Draft responses to national/regional/local pro bono/CSR-related surveys (e.g., ABA Pro Bono Challenge Report, NALP, marketplace surveys, etc.)

Join us if you have:

  • BS/BA degree, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years prior experience in a law firm or other professional services organization preferred
  • Proficiency with SharePoint and Tableau or ability to learn and use database application is preferred
  • Self-motivated, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to successfully work with fast-paced, motivated, and focused individuals
  • Ability to maintain professional discretion when dealing with highly sensitive, confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with lawyers and staff, both in written and verbal communications
  • Superior organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Familiarity of pro bono rules and relevant legal practice areas and/or industries a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and OneNote
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment in both team and independent settings are required
  • Attention to detail, and analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills are required

This job description intends to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. It is not intended to include all duties and responsibilities.

The annualized salary range for this position in New York City is $80,000 to $103,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short term disability, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401(k), vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program. Additional voluntary programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long term care, voluntary critical illness and cancer insurance and pet insurance. Commuter and Transit programs are also available.
