David & Margaret Youth and Family Services is Hiring an In-Home Behavioral Support Counselor Near La Verne, CA
Summary/ObjectiveThe In-Home Behavioral Support Counselor supports the Unaccompanied Children/Youth in the program by mentoring them, supporting them in adjusting to the foster homes, and working with the rest of the treatment team to create and implement an individual service plan for each youth in the program.
Essential FunctionsSpecific duties include but are not limited to the following:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of WorkThis is a full-time position, and the general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. Some later evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel is primarily local during the business day.
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a social service field.
Must be bilingual (English/Spanish) verbally proficient
Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite in particular Word and PowerPoint.
Prior experience in a residential treatment facility or in a foster care program is preferred.
Other RequirementsMust have a valid California driver’s license and good driving record.
Must be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks for this class of employee.
Must meet Title XXII personnel requirements with regards to fingerprinting, forms, and documents.
Possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates within 30 days of employment.
Obtain within the first 30 days of employment Pro-Act (Professional Assault Crisis Training).
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Essential FunctionsSpecific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Acts as a mentor for the youth in the program.
- Functions as a behavioral skills building coach and works with both the youth and FP to reinforce skills being learned in therapy, behavioral modification, and at times may provide short-term respite for the FP by taking a youth out of the home to do an activity in the community.
- Works with the youth in the program on identifying vocational interests and assisting the youth to research these and helping them understand what it takes to work toward this/these interests.
- Supports youth in their educational needs including ESL exercises.
- Assists as needed in crisis situations.
- Assists in the development of the individual needs and services plan and support the interventions identified in this plan.
- Supports the Foster Parent in the structure of the home to meet the needs of the youth in conjunction with the LTFCSW and the Clinician.
- Other duties as assigned.
