David H. Martin Excavating is Hiring a Pipe Layer Near Chambersburg, PA

Job Overview:
We are seeking Pipelayers to join the DHM team. This is a Construction Laborer position with an emphasis on working to install utility pipelines in trenches, culverts and open excavation areas. As a Pipelayer, you will be responsible for installing and repairing underground pipelines for various excavation and construction projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Install sewer, water and storm pipes and electrical conduit, and repair underground pipelines according to project specifications
  • Use pipe lasers to ensure accurate alignment and slope
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine pipe layout and placement
  • Level bedding materials using rake, shovel, or other hand tools for pipe installation
  • Use a shovel or other tools to expose existing utilities as necessary
  • Dig trenches by various methods and assist with setting bracing to support the sides of excavation trenching
  • Work with powered and non-powered hand tools
  • Install various types of pipe in a trench environment
  • Assist with shooting grades and setting lasers up
  • Move around in and work in confined spaces
  • Assist other laborers and heavy equipment operators in the performance of their job duties
  • Give cues and signals and directions to heavy equipment operators
  • Collaborate with crew members to complete projects efficiently and safely
  • Perform all duties in accordance with appropriate safety standards, and follow all incident reporting and safety procedures
  • Load and unload trucks and haul, hoist heavy materials
  • Assist construction managers and heavy equipment operators and provide traffic control when needed
  • Remove and/or work around hazardous materials
  • Perform a variety of other tasks involving regular strenuous manual labor
  • Perform material handling and storage as needed
  • Maintain a clean job site and secure job site daily
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and safely

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Preferred experience as a Pipelayer or in a similar role in the excavation/construction industry
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills with a positive attitude
  • Must be able to work overtime as required
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in the excavation/construction trade
