David Evans Associates is Hiring a Fluvial Geomorphologist Near BLV, WA

DEA’s Puget Sound Water Resources team is hiring for a Fluvial Geomorphologist to support major projects in our Puget Sound region. This position will support a variety of assignments related to habitat restoration, fish passage, bank stabilization, and floodplain analysis.This position can be located in Bellevue, Everett, Olympia, Seattle, or Tacoma. This position will require the candidate to utilize their expertise in water resources engineering related projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design
  • Culvert and bridge hydraulics
  • Stream, wetland, and habitat restoration design
  • Feasibility studies and master plans
  • Engineering and construction plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Coordination with regulatory agencies for project permitting

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and contribute to the growth of our Water Resources group
  • Responsible for planning and design of a wide range of water resources systems including hydraulic analysis for stream crossings and evaluating for fish passage and scour
  • Perform field investigations and prepare reports to characterize natural channel processes
  • Perform hydraulic analyses to support channel modifications
  • Provide recommendations for improving fish habitat
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards
  • Interface with clients and public agencies on an as-needed basis
  • Assistance in Business Development efforts (e.g. engagement in professional organizations and visibility efforts), preparing proposals and participating in interviews as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Licensed Geologist or Professional Engineer
  • 6 or more years of experience in design and construction experience with stream restoration including stream grading, habitat complexity features, Large Woody Material placement, and stream or river embankment stabilization.
  • Leading project teams in collecting data, writing reports, and preparing plans specifications and cost estimates for river, estuary, and shoreline restoration projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Fish Passage and Stream Restoration Training
  • Successfully completed WSDOT and National Highway Institute (NHI) Scour Training courses
  • Project management and business development experience is beneficial
  • Proficient in common engineering software packages, including: Microstation OpenRoads, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis, Civil3D, CivilStorm, StormShed, MGSFlood, SMS/SRH-2D, HEC-RAS 2D, HY-8, ArcGIS, and Excel
