    Position Title: Energy Management Specialist

    General Summary or Purpose of Job:
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments and duties may vary.) Additional duties are performed by the individual holding this position and additional duties may be assigned.
    Salary—new hire = $26.42; $27.07 after probationary period has been met.

    Duties & Responsibilities: (Essential functions of the position, major responsibilities, summary of key duties, special assignments, relationships)
    • Background in HVAC Operations and Maintenance as well as BAS Systems.
    • Develop and implement energy conservation initiatives aimed at reducing overall utility costs across the district while maintaining building comfort for staff and students.
    • Develop and manage comprehensive energy budgets.
    • Ensure that energy management operations are in line with the overall goals of the district.
    • Perform Preventative Maintenance routines on all HVAC equipment throughout the district.
    • Utilize Building Automation System (BAS) software to schedule equipment run times, building occupancy modes, temperature set points and related.
    • Maintain DNR reports for geo thermal buildings as required.
    • Utilize Building Automation System (BAS) software to run trend analyses and create special reports.
    • Utilize utility bill meter data and software to monitor utility usage, spot trends, understand usage and create reports for upper management.
    • Provide advice on equipment and lighting specifications for new buildings and renovations.
    • Audit buildings to determine conformance to district standards.
    • Develop and refine recommendations for district energy management standards
    • Manage building equipment retro fits, commissioning and retro-commissioning projects.
    • Find and apply for grants, rebates and cash incentives for energy efficiency measures.
    • Ensure all eligible new construction is entered into Mid American New Construction Cash Incentive Program, or other incentive programs.
    • Be the District champion for energy efficiency
    • Trouble shoot HVAC or electrical equipment problems and perform repairs
    Minimum Qualifications: (necessary qualifications to gain entry into the job not preferred or desirable qualifications)
    Education and Experience
    Combination of education and experience in energy management, building automation controls, sustainability, HVAC, electrical, mechanical or environmental engineering, business or economics with emphasis in energy economics and sustainability or related equivalent training and experience.
    Typical educational background:
    Minimum of Associate in Applied Science or like experience in Heating, Ventilation, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with 5 or more years related work experience including experience with Building Automation Systems software. Demonstrated ability to create reports for data and provide informational materials, reports and training to others. .

The employee will frequently work in different areas of the district including in/at desks, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors including on building roofs, in basements and boiler rooms, mechanical rooms and electrical rooms.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 - 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. The employee will climb ladders and access roofs.
    Vision Requirements: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while
    supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
