The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Vice President, Data Engineering to join our team. This position will report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This position can be based in our Denver, CO office; Beaverton, OR office; or be fully remote.

As the Vice President of Data Engineering, you will be the cornerstone of engineering leadership, spearheading the transformation and scaling of our engineering prowess to new heights. This role is not just about managing teams; it's about inspiring change, fostering innovation, and leading by example. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of DAT's engineering landscape, working closely with C-level executives, senior product leaders, and technical innovators to sculpt the vision and strategy of DAT IQ and beyond.

What You'll Do

  • Guide the technical vision and strategy for an accurate, scalable, usable, and reliable data platform and infrastructure.
  • Create governing principles for data access, accuracy, freshness, etc. for all data organizations at DAT to follow.
  • Foster an action-bias culture for product innovation and delivery, high performance, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide actionable business insights to product and other cross functional leaders.
  • Architect and drive the overarching engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with DAT's business goals and vision.
  • Lead, expand, and empower multiple engineering teams across our Analytics business, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with senior product leadership and technical stakeholders to develop and refine DAT's product roadmap and technological vision.
  • Assume direct leadership over engineering managers and principal engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities to elevate their expertise and impact.
  • Champion best practices in software development, product delivery, and agile methodologies, instilling a mindset of quality, reliability, and user-centric design.
  • Spearhead initiatives to streamline operations, reduce technical debt, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to keep DAT at the forefront of the industry.
  • Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with a knack for turning complex challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Exhibit a leadership style that is both assertive and inspirational, capable of motivating diverse teams towards achieving unparalleled success.

Who You Are

  • A seasoned leader with over 10 years of experience in software development, including significant exposure to SaaS environments.
  • Boasting at least 5 years in a senior management role, with a proven track record of leading multiple software development teams to success.
  • Experience with driving successful platform adoption programs, with the ability to demonstrate the business impact of such initiatives.
  • Data driven mindset: you know that everything built must be measured to understand its impact on the business and drive your teams to build with that in mind.
  • Highly effective communicator with good people instincts - able to build trust and work well with a diverse group both internally and externally.
  • Willingness to lead in a hands-on, high-performance environment.
  • Organized, self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • High degree of humility and accountability
  • Experience leading, growing, and retaining high performance engineering leadership at Director level.
  • An expert in full-stack development with a history of setting strategic direction, roadmapping, and balancing technical debt with innovation.
  • A curious mind, driven to understand how things work and passionate about sharing knowledge across all levels of the organization.
  • A collaborative leader, skilled in working with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
  • An adept communicator, capable of distilling complexity into clarity for a wide range of audiences.
  • Holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a lifelong commitment to learning and development.
  • Travel will be required to DAT office locations, trade shows, and more around 25-50%.

For Colorado-based candidates, in compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, theminimum salary for this role is $240,000.00 benefits. The maximum compensation for this role can vary significantly depending on your job-related skills and experience. DAT considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education and training, core skills, internal equity, and market and business elements when extending an offer.
