Are you new to Phlebotomy? Find out more about our Phlebotomist Training Program through DHMC's Workforce Readiness Institute here: Phlebotomist Training Program. This is on-the-job training program – you will spend time in the department and with the Workforce Readiness Institute team.
DHMC and Clinics has a Phlebotomist Career Ladder which means that you will start as a Phlebotomist Trainee in the WRI program and learn the basic competencies of the role. Upon completion of your first 6 weeks and 100 unaided-successful sticks, you are eligible to sit for the ASCP Phlebotomy Technician certification, paid for by us! Additionally, you move into the Advanced Trainee level.
From there, with further training and experience, you work toward earning the national certification, as well as using your knowledge to train new team members. The Career Ladder affords you the opportunity to grow in the department while also seeing your hourly rate increase as you meet the competencies.
Do you already have phlebotomy experience or training? We have open positions and the Career Ladder still applies to you!
The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a focus on customer service and providing a great patient experience, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. To be hired directly, you must have completed a Phlebotomy training program or have prior phlebotomy experience. Our Phlebotomists (currently a team of 40), work various shifts – mornings, days, evenings or nights, and rotating weekends and holiday coverage is required. DHMC and Clinics offers generous shift differentials where appropriate.
Unsure of what to do? Apply anyway - even if you have no experience and are interested, and we will help you navigate where you should be!
An integral part of our hospital operations – the role of the Phlebotomist is a key player in the facilitation of collecting and passing along a vital piece of information to our Laboratory and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve its mission of providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. The Phlebotomist collects blood samples from patients of all ages. Identifies patients and procures samples.
