Location: Manhattan
Position Overview:
Manages the nursing unit ensuring that it functions properly and safely.
Qualifications:
Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required; BSN preferred.
Experience 4 years nursing experience, one in leadership capacity.
Minimum of 1 year in a skilled nursing facility.
Specialized Knowledge and
Skills, License/CertificationBasic Computer Skills.
Valid NYS Professional Registered Nurse License
Current CPR Certification.

Responsibilities:
Reviews and performs staffing allocation for all nursing personnel on assigned units.
1. Calls the unit to identify staff present
2. Allocate staff based on unit par levels.
Performs unit rounds, identifies, investigates and resolves problems informing appropriate levels of
management when necessary.
1. Performs unit rounds at the beginning and end of shifts and as needed.
2. Investigate and resolves any issues identified.
3. Notify appropriate management as needed.
Responds to patient/resident/family concerns, issues or complaints.
1. Accidents/Incidents are documented in Occurrence Report, and recommendations are made for
corrective action.
2. Notifies D.N.S. and Security of alleged abuse
3. Participates in investigation
4. Gathers necessary documentation for NYS DOH and internal investigations
Communicates resident clinical events or changes
1. Disseminates information to appropriate inter- departmental staff.
2. Ensures resolution for any identified areas where possible.
3. Completes and contributes to 24-hour census report
Ensure that all control medications maintained and accounted for as per policy and procedure
1. Count and document medication held in the Emergency Control Box (C Box) at the start and end
of every shift
2. Medication removed from C box during assigned shift, is documented and replaced as per policy
Oversees and manages clinical care and emergency response
1. Evaluates all admissions and ensures compliance of admission policy and procedure
2. Responds to all residents reported to have had an occurrence and assess for potential injury
3. Ensures all central line and intravenous therapies are completed as per policy
4. Responds to all emergency codes and provides appropriate direction
Manages performance of direct and indirect reports. Provides orientation, coaching, training and
development. Takes corrective action when necessary.
Utilizes corporate services resources such as Human Resources, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Information
Services, Marketing, etc., as appropriate.
Ensures appropriate staffing and resources to support department/agency services. Monitors productivity
throughout the year and participates in annual budget preparation.
Interviews and participates in the selection process for qualified staff in collaboration with Human
Resources and department management.

Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit for long periods of time, as work is frequently performed seated at a desk.
• Frequently moves within the office to access file cabinets, use office machinery
(computer, copy machine, etc.,) or attend meetings.
• Occasional lifting, pushing and/or pulling up to 30 pounds, (i.e.: box of paper.)
Mental Demands:
• Must frequently prioritize functions and tasks performed within the department in order
to meet (sometimes conflicting) deadlines.
• Must always remain professional when interacting with others (co-workers, patients,
members, their representatives, family members, physicians, etc.)
Working Conditions:
• Works in a normal office environment.
