Danella Companies, Inc. is Hiring a Construction Estimator (Power) - DPS Near Plymouth Meeting, PA

Overview

This position is accountable for the development and submission of detailed and accurate estimates and required deliverables as well as supporting post bid submission customer requirements.

The Estimator will report to the Manager Estimating and Business Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Attend the pre-construction meeting and perform material and labor take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and completed prior to deadlines.
  • Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price for use in bid
  • Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals, etc.)
  • Work with the Estimating Project Administrator to submit RFIs for estimating questions as required by the RFP
  • Establish a construction schedule to develop manpower for estimate. Include milestones, shutdowns, etc.
  • Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stake holders
  • Provide assistance to other estimators
  • Work with others in the Group to develop RFP deliverables that are of the highest quality, accurate and coincide with RFP expectations
  • Coordinate Danella Power Services, Inc. subject matter experts and Estimating group to compose work narratives, work approach documents, executive summaries and other RFP deliverables
  • Provide peer check assistance to estimators, project managers and others as required
  • Work with other estimators and project administrators assigned to the Group
  • Peer check and participate in bid reviews
  • Refer all potential legal or contractual RFP bid requirements to Vice President – Danella Power Services
  • Work with the Estimating Project Administrator to maintain up to date bid list on SharePoint
  • Work with the Estimating Project Administrator to upload project documents to ShareFile and/or SmartSync for vendors/subcontractors
  • Review all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and apply to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.), reviewing documents for accuracy and consistency.
  • Generate award documents for review
  • Facilitate a scope review with the PM at project hand-off
  • Identify areas of importance (milestones, LDs, etc.) of a project and relay to PM
  • Identify possible change orders and relay to PM
  • Review purchase orders, subcontracts and contracts for accuracy
  • Assist in the purchase of materials, services, and subcontracts
  • Review/approve and/or forward submittals for shop drawings and samples for materials according to project requirements and schedules
  • Attend project meetings as needed; assist construction personnel at the onset of the project life-cycle in tracking and understanding basis and approach to the cost estimate.
  • Estimate change order costs, and assist with the preparation and submission of change orders as requested
  • Follow up at the end of the project to provide lessons learned in the estimating process.

Financial Management

  • Ensure that the Project Management Team and Accounting is provided with accurate bid information to develop estimated revenue and cost at completion data in a consistent and timely manner
  • Assist the Project management Team in the development of cost codes applicable to project scope

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or other related field or the comparable equivalent of education and work experience
  • Two years or more related experience in the Investor-Owned Utility Electric utility or construction industry performing cost estimates and estimating knowledge of electric distribution and transmission projects.
  • An acceptable combination of education and work experience, validating estimating skill level.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or equivalent required
  • Proficient in MS Office applications with strong skills in Excel, Word, MS Project and Primavera 6.
  • Must be able to navigate construction sites consisting of uneven terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, and working at heights

Abilities and Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of the Electric Investor Owned Utility construction services industry and/or other related service-oriented organizations.
  • Knowledge of general construction practices with familiarity with electric investor-owned utility preferred.
  • Able to learn new trade jargon and to communicate with field employees.
  • Process-oriented and experience developing processes.
  • Excellent oral and written English language expression and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, leadership and relationship skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced business environment
  • Self-starter; be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Manage time efficiently
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Knowledge of manpower loading and resource loading scheduling and software
  • Good working knowledge of web applications and MS Sharepoint

Working Conditions

  • Office and construction site environment.
  • Work requires regular travel and occasional travel out of Pennsylvania.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Business casual attire, except appropriate dress for meetings with customers or work on job sites.
  • General duties may require lifting objects up to 50 lbs
