Danbury Public Schools District is Hiring a Cashier school lunch Near Danbury, CT

Scope

To perform routine cashiering and computer tasks in a school cafeteria. This job classification requires accuracy, attention to detail, as well as independent judgment and problem solving skills to be fully experienced in relation to assigned areas of responsibility.

Example of Job Duties

  • Enter pre-payments into the cash register before cafeteria opens
  • Prepare the cash register for breakfast and lunch operations and set-up change in cash drawer
  • Monitor student dietary notes in the POS system to ensure students with food allergies avoid purchasing items that may trigger an allergic reaction
  • Accurately ring sales into the POS system, collect the correct amount charged for each individual meal, milk or a la carte item and provide accurate change to students
  • Understand the various meal patterns, meal components and minimum serving requirements to meet the criteria of a reimbursable meal as regulated by National School Breakfast, Lunch and Snack Programs and accurately ring into POS system.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season, and knead foodstuffs for cooking, serving and storing
  • Assists in the preparation of foods, and serves food, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage
  • Inspects workstations for compliance with service standards
  • Keeps records and requisitions for supplies / equipment as needed
  • Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment following all School Lunch policies and procedures
  • Count cash drawer and wrap money in a secure location at the end of each day, record register and school totals on daily record form, prepare bank deposit slip and secure in locked or tamper resistant bank bag
  • Follow the rules, regulations, and policies of the school lunch program which includes preventing overt identification of students eligibility status to staff and other students
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy; report any problems or complaints to Cook Manager
  • Promote good school and community relations by personal appearance, friendly attitude and conversation
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as required
  • Help stock food and supplies and general cleanup as time permits
  • Work cooperatively with all other food service employees
  • Adhere to rules of appropriate personal hygiene and dress
  • Maintain an orderly and clean work area
  • Perform specific duties and operate kitchen equipment as assigned (cash register, dish washer), report faulty equipment
  • Adhere to rigid sanitary standards in work practices and food handling including appropriate glove usage
  • Work efficiently at specific assigned tasks and offer assistance to other personnel with their assignments when cashiering functions are not being performed
  • Assist Cook Manager in other related duties as requested / assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cook Manager or Food Service Manager

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic mathematical computation
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures
  • Ability to handle cash transactions
  • Ability to maintain basic records and files
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently during meal times
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
  • Ability to operate a computer and printer as needed to perform job duties.
  • Ability to lift / unload food and supplied up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance and good hygiene

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience handling cash
  • Must have working knowledge of basic math applications and computations skills
  • Working Environment & Equipment Used : The job's functions requires the following physical demands : occasional lifting (30 pounds maximum), carrying, pushing and / or pulling;
  • some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and / or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity;

frequent standing, walking, and sitting, and lifting up to 30 pounds. High volume of work and strict adherence to workload may be stressful. .

Rate of Pay

$20.42 per hour / 3.5 hours per day

Monday - Friday 9 : 30 AM - 1 : 00 PM
