POSITION SUMMARY:

The function of the Grower is to participate in the growing of heathy plants, under the supervision of the Head Grower, to prepare for sale to our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to):

Plant Production:

• Work side by side with the growing team to produce plants that meet the specifications of our customers.
• Assess watering needs and adjust irrigation systems accordingly to maintain plant health.

Growing:

• Obtain plant measurements and soil measurements to track growth progress.
• Proactively scout for bugs and plant pests using sticky cards and crop inspection.
• Apply fertilizer and pesticides as needed (with a valid pesticide license).
• Keep Lead and Head Grower informed of status of all growing activities.

Operations:

• Prepare plants in hanging baskets, containers, and flats.
• Set up racks and wrap for shipment.
• Inform Range Manager of equipment repairs: including heaters, fans, and watering equipment.
• Carry out basic greenhouse maintenance as instructed by Head Grower.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• 1 years in greenhouse growing related duties
• Applicator’s license preferred or be willing to obtain applicator’s license.

• Ability to effectively work autonomously, while always keeping Head Grower informed of critical data.

• Demonstrates a strong work ethic, flexible with work hours, and willing to be available when necessary.

ABOUT US:

Dan & Jerry's Greenhouses was started in the 70's as a small local greenhouse and has grown to be the 11th largest greenhouse in the country! We are a wholesale supplier of superior annuals, perennials, bedding plants, trees and shrubs. We currently grow in MO, MN, SD, IA, and MI and service retail operations throughout the Midwest and East Coast.
