Logistics Specialist

Responsible for overseeing supply chain processes and product delivery by tracking and reviewing invoices, shipment status, and delivery route activity. Collaborates and works closely with cross-functional teams to assist in their processes and business needs. The Logistics Specialist will coordinate and schedule drivers for pick-up and delivery in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.

Essential Functions

Collects, interprets, and analyzes various types of logistics data including availability of product, reliability of transport and delivery, and other data related to product supply chain management, sourcing, and distribution

Maintains database(s) of logistics information.

Communicates with customers and/or support staff to understand customers’ needs and to ensure those needs are met.

Schedules drivers for pick-up and delivery; selects most efficient routes for each driver. Drafts and distributes driver schedules; uses outside trucks and drivers when needed.

Oversees equipment availability.

Consolidates orders into truckloads for specific destinations.

Maintains phone contact with drivers; receives and dispatches response and emergency aid when needed.

Anticipates weather complications along routes and at the drivers’ destinations; communicates delays and route changes as necessary.

Maintains current knowledge of logistics and technology developments and trends; recommends and implements improvements based on this knowledge to provide more efficient service to clients.

Gathers needed information on and understanding of customer demands; meets specific needs for transloading, inventory management, distribution, and fulfillment.

Tracks product flow from origin to delivery via web-based logistics systems and other appropriate methods of monitoring inventory and shipment vehicles.

Monitors warehouse facilities to evaluate inventory transactions such as receiving, storage, shipping, and inventory integrity.

Oversees and evaluates all activities of the dock and employees, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading of all freight.

Receives mobile vendor orders and completes order checkout

Oversee Tub accounts, proactive communication determining an account need.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Computer Science, or related field required.

Minimum of one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous experience in logistics field required.

Knowledge and Skills

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to perform multiple tasks and a variety of duties.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong leadership skills to ensure drivers’ compliance with direction and assignments.

Basic understanding of geographical area and mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing. (e.g. Roadnet, Omnitracs, Dispatch Track)

Proficient with computer-based management systems for inventory control, shipping operations, and fulfillment services.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
