Responsibilities

The weekend RN will work Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday days. The Emergency Room RN is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within the scope of practice. Here are some qualities we're looking for on our ER team:

  • communicates with physician continuously and as needed about patient condition
  • directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care
  • directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients
  • communicates with physician about changes in the patient's clinical condition, including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology
  • able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment
  • knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker
  • maintains patient privacy and confidentiality

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred
  • valid Texas State Registered Nursing (RN) license, required
  • current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current, required
  • current ACLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
  • current PALS certificate and/or ENPC within 30 days of hire and maintain current
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), preferred
  • EKG certification within 30 days of hire
  • minimum of one year experience as a staff RN in acute care hospital, ER setting preferred

Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):

  • In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current
  • EDAP certified facilities: completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire
  • Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire, required
